12 volt conversion starter solenoid

Hello. Converting my '37 over to 12volts. I was wondering how most people handle operating the starter solenoid. The original button shorted the solenoid to the body. Is there a 12volt solenoid out there that will still work by shorting it to the body with the original pushbutton start, or does someone make a pushbutton start switch that works with 2 wires, a 12vdc input and the output to the solenoid. Not wanting to have to rig it, would like it to look somewhat original

I used a 2 post starter button that powers the solenoid. Don't remember where I got it, but its chrome and looks similar to the original one. Some say the original will work, but I have seen some that fry in the start position.

I use a four post solenoid (similar to the B6A-11450-A in MACS catalog) mounted to the firewall of my '36. The "S" post connects to the push button starter that I have mounted on the bottom of the dash-out of sight. The "I" post is an ignition by-pass that boosts the power to the coil (connected to the "+" terminal of the coil) only momentarily while the starter button is pushed. The other post on the push button starter is connected to the starter side of the ignition switch. The large post of the solenoid on the "S" side is connected to the battery and the large post on the other side is connected to the starter. I don't know if that answers your question but it works well on my 12 volt conversion.

I used a 12V solenoid, insulated it from ground and ran the wire from the button to the case of the solenoid. Works great. 25 years and counting.

Well, I bought a standard 12v solenoid at Napa and I found out that the pushbutton from about 53 to 56 on a Ford F100 will work, it has 2 connections on it.

I've had the 6 volt sel. stick when useing 12 volts and the engine keeps crank ing utill you disconnect the batt. I use the a 12 volt sel. with a 2 wire button. Walt
