11 inch Clutch and 36 Pickup Trans

The trans bellhousing casting was altered in 1935 to allow room for the 11" clutch, but someone posted on here a real '35 trans still built with the earlier casting...so check what you have even if it carries a 1936 serial.
Look at the bellhousing right where it bolts to the engine Block: An early type casting tapers from the flange right on back, a 1935 and up casting goes back almost straight for about an inch and then tapers. There are other differences, but that one will tell you easily what you really have.

Will the 11 inch clutch work with the 36 pickup trans or what modifications are needed? Thanks
Why do you want to use an 11in. clutch? If it's a light truck, like a pickup I'd use a 9in. The 11in,is heavy, like 1000# Use the lightest clutch and pressure plate you can in a light car or pickup, your not hauling 5 yard of gravel are you? You'll have alot better zip with the light stuff. Walt

Exactly Walt,my thoughts also. your left leg will not like the 11" its overkill for a old ford. You dont need it. ken ct.

Ive driven a 36 ton and a half, pedal pressure is high.A 10 inch clutch needs a matching fly wheel so I would stay with the original 9 inch. The oil pan has to come off to change an 11 inch. Not logical.

Bruce, Thanks for the information. It's been awhile since I worked with this stuff and I couldn't remember what year they changed the case. Now that I know what I don't need to do,I'll get started.
