10" clutch in an A?

I have a 10" clutch and pressure plate from a flathead V8. Will that work in any way or is there clearance problems in the bell housing. I have already machined the flywheel down to use a V8 pressure plate taking off 20 pounds.
If I need a 9" i will have to try to locate one.
Thanks for your help!

If you need a 9", I got my pressure plate from Brattons, $95 with no exchange needed. It says the flywheel must be machined, which is true. It goes on to say that the crank must be counterbalanced, huh? Anyone know why the counterweights are necessary? Anyway it is the right replacement with the centrifugal weights, very easy to depress.

Well, in this litigious society, I am sure they are trying to cover their 'backsides', ...AND it has been stated/argued that Ford lightened his flywheels when he added counterweights to the crankshaft. The issue I have with that is not all B cranks were counterweighted however all B flywheels that I know of are lighter than an A. I have not researched it enough to know whether there was two different flywheels used in the Model B so I would yield to the knowledge of Vince in that regard but I am of the opinion that you do not need all of that mass in today's driving environment.

Also, the original conversion was using an early V8 pressure plates, ...which are different than the typical "tractor type" pressure plate that most vendors sell today.

A 10" Long-style pressure plate with flyweights will not even come close to fitting in a Model A bellhousing. The optional diaphragm clutch sold in later years as replacements for '46-48 cars will fit but will need the ID of the spring fingers machined to clear the bearing retainer.

The 9" or 9 1/4" clutch disc will fit the stock Model A Pressure Plate. The V-8 Pressure Plate works better with a 8 7/8" clutch disc - the 9" is a very tight fit.

Thanks Ken
That might be the easiest way to go since I already have the flywheel drilled and tapped for the 10". It never dawned on me that it might not fit. To late smart.
By the way the crank is counter balanced.

Crankshafts are very dumb things, they don't know how heavy the flywheel is, so any weight wheel will work just fine. A light wheel doesn't add horsepower but it feels like it has.

I have the 10" Diaphram pressure plate in my 29 Roadster, with cut down A flywheel. As Jow Way said, its necessary to releave the fingers to clear the throwout bearing.
