10 -10 -10 revisited

For explanation to my friends, I humbly readdress the 10 – 10 – 10 thread.

I asked what 10, 10, 10 on the ‘59’engine rebuilder’s plate meant. To posters, SUHRsc and Tim Ayers, you were dead-on: the third 10 meant that the pistons were .010 oversize.

I went to the ranch this morning, heeding all who had said, “Go back out and mike everything, dummy!” Well… no one said dummy, but you should have. I had originally eyeballed the mike laying across the block, and the sleeve (outside diameter) measured 3 3/16 plus .080. I had already reamed the cylinders for piston removal and (inaccurately) eyeballed the cylinders. So today I used an inside gauge, and the pistons are 3 3/16 plus .010.

Thanks to all who advised me.
