    Inner Tubes

I got the tubes (2 for $40) and installed one. They seem about the same weight as the old one and don't think there is any difference between bias-ply and radial tubes. The only issue I had was the size of the valve stem. I solved the small diameter/large hole problem with a rubber plumbing...

    Inner Tubes

AI says, "Size: A 4.10/4.50-19 tube can physically expand to fit a 4.50-19 tire, so the size itself is acceptable. Valve stem: The TR4 stem is intended for motorcycle rims. Many Model A artillery wheels use a larger automotive valve stem hole and typically take a TR13 or TR15 stem. A TR4 stem...

    Inner Tubes

I guess nobody has an answer to my original question so I guess I'll order the 4.10/4.50 motorcycle inner tube from Amazon and hope for the best. According to one discussion website, a radial tube is a better choice because of the thicker rubber...

    Inner Tubes

I need an inner tube for a 4.75/5.0 x 20 bias-ply tire. Is it possible to use a 4.10/4.50 motorcycle inner tube? Anyone have any experience with this?

    Hood side emblem stud repair?

I'd do it the easy way and use Heavy Duty Double Sided Mounting Tape. Works great and will never come off. Used it on my '52 Ford pickup to mount my emblems. No drilling and no fuss. Water can't get in so no rust.

    8BA Flathead fan belt widths

I've never heard of a 3/8 size belt. They come in A (1/2") and B (5/8) as far as I know. You can probably buy them cheaper at a farm store.

    Inspection and registration tomorrow

Here in Alberta we only pay a one time fee of around $36 to register your antique. We do have to get an "out of province" inspection done by an approved garage and licensed mechanic. My three have all passed on the first try.

How many of you do your own work?

I've restored 4 vehicles, 3 were frame off, plus the body of a 1929 Oldsmobile since I retired 20 years ago and have done all the work myself.

Toe in adjustment on stock front end 40 Ford car

I assume that the specs are for bias ply tires. Would radial specs be the same?

    Backwards battery

Personally I would leave it negative ground as it is less confusing especially if your other vehicles are negative ground. You need to polarize the battery, switch the wiring on the coil and the wiring on the ammeter if it shows a discharge when it's actually charging.

JB Weld on a fuel syste, repair

I fixed a hole in a gas tank with JB weld. It started leaking again about a year later. Solder works better but be careful.

Who would believe?....the places that you find a flathead V8...!!

One of my uncles had a Hillman back in the fifties. He said that when they got to a steep hill the whole family had to get out and push! Must not be the original motor.

    Jump box

I have too many times but be careful. This summer things went sideways for me and "KABOOM". Acid all over the place but luckily no serious injuries but had to do some repainting and buy a new battery.

    ‘34 Spark confusion

Re: ‘34 Spark confusion If you have a weak or inconsistent spark the first thing to check for is a short between the distributor points and the coil. Use a multimeter to check for continuity or resistance between the points in open position and the distributor body. If there is check the...

6 volt to 12 volt conversion

You can get the benefits of #1 and 2 by installing a 6 volt to 12 volt converter. I just bought one on Amazon to replace the many dinkey ones I have installed. This one is 10 amps which will easily power any 12 volt item I will use. You can get bigger ones. I plan to install mine on the firewall...

6 volt to 12 volt conversion

Thanks. I thought I had a great idea in converting to 12 volts but I guess everyone was too polite to point out the obvious flaw in my thinking. The problem is simply that it doesn't account for the fact that a 6 volt generator doesn't charge a 12 volt battery adequately. So its back to getting...

6 volt to 12 volt conversion

All of this has been checked but back to the original question asked in this thread: What is the best way to convert a 6 volt system to a 12 volt system? Obvious the car companies saw advantages to switching in 1956. So far I have not received an answer as to why my proposed method wouldn't...

6 volt to 12 volt conversion

The starter is used and came with the engine. It is working as it should but not turning the engine over fast enough. It spins the motor way faster on 12 volts. What specific problems do you see with my proposed setup? The truck would basically run on 6 volts, have the benefits of 12 volt easy...
