29 Model A :replacing timing gear, aluminum or phenolic? How to determine oversize

Dave Mc Eachern makes a great set of gears for our A's and T's. Bronze is quieter that the aluminum ones, I'm told. Want to build a nice Burtz with a set of Mc Eacherns gears. I may even want to go with and overhead like the Miller if my horse can run a few seconds faster, but poor devel he is...

Turned the fuel off under the hood of my 31 coupe, after yesterdays drive. this morning I went out, closed the hood and latched it, got in the drivers seat and tried to start it to go have my Sunday Morning Coffee at Pete's. So it didn't start. Guess what I did next, looked at my Lincoln, then...

    Shifting Front Axle

Also check the toe in. If that is excessive, or non existant you will surely get the death wobble. I set mine at about 3/16" or less and it seems to track great. I also put on radial 600 X16 tires and tubes and the car doesn't want to follow small grooves in the road like it used to do.

    Cleaning the radiator

A final note. The morning of the event I went out to my car to get it running while my bride was getting the final bits into our cases. Hit the starter and nada, tried the horn and lights, nothing. Transferred my trash to the modern machine and drove that to the "opener." It rained on us a tad...

    Dropping the oil pan

I cut the heads off of four 1 1/2 inch long bolts and rounded the area I had cut, then I made my screwdriver slots. Took probably 10/15 minutes to make and the pan is easily slipped into place with perfect location. Tighten a few bolts close to each of your new "tools" and then put them in a...

    New to me

So I get ready to start the car. Crank it a bit and it seems to be spinning over fine, but it may be a bit flooded as it doesn't start. Then from up in the front I hear a "thunk" sound and there is no more spinning of the starter and nothing electrical works. There is a slight buzzing sound from...

Installing tie rods without removing backing plate?

I have a couple of old sockets that instead of fitting some nut or bolt have a blade for large slotted plugs or screws. Maybe a tool vender can find one for you.

    Best riding A?

I have 600 X 16 Radials, brand new with less than 200 miles on them. They ride better than the old Goodyears bias tires I took off, but just a tad.I might drop the psi in the tubes and see if that helps. Been raining so much I have done anything since I started this thread. Do appreciate the...

    Best riding A?

Yeh, my shocks are from the late RP. They were leaking before I got them on the car. Not sure I can get a decent adjustment out of them. I had three sets over the years, you're right, I never learn. All leak imediately after the initial ride and continue to do so until empty. I have some old...

    Best riding A?

I have a 31 coupe that has original type shocks which appear to be in fair condition. Like all I have ever had, they leaked from day one, but did seem to improve the ride. I tried some after market tube shocks and the gave a bad ride on the coupe and also on my roadster so I went back to the...

    Cleaning the radiator

This will be my second round with the vinegar. I did us dish washer soap before I started the last time. Didn't see signs of grease in the water this time. Last time it was a real mess until I got the third rinse, using tap water. Filled it with distilled water, about $1.00 Gal. at the grocery...

    Cleaning the radiator
