    Missing light box part

I'm overseas. I can get some things here at about 100% markup but not everything. Thought about trying to make one with a printed circuit board. Thot someone might have tried a mickey-mouse.

7 tooth steering bottom bearing question

my problem is that part #30 spins. The 4 bolt flange stays the the "ring" with the slot turns. (this ring is part of the bearing retainer on the 7 tooth box) The 2 tooth only has 2 bolts and the ring is separate as in the picture in this thread. Is there a notch to hold it or do I need a spot...

    Missing light box part

(related to another post) Trying to put light switch back where it belongs. We bought a light box but there's nowhere to attach the wires. Original harness is gone. I assume there is a disk that goes in there but can't find one for sale. It seems there's one on the harnesses you buy. Anyone...

7 tooth steering bottom bearing question

Trying to put the lights back where they belong, but the ring that the light box fits into spins. What's supposed to hold it still when you turn the wheel?

Trying to take out axial play and reduce rear oil leak.

    Grinning and "bearing" it

Should I leave the loose piece in there? Just thought of this, what if I try to fill it with solder. The area is badly cracked and I'm afraid if it comes loose I'll lose lubrication.

    Grinning and "bearing" it

I want an opinion. Sure I'll get many. Took main bearing cap off and found this. This isn't a cross country or daily driver car and runs fine. This is the front and is cast. I'm in a foreign country (Brazil) and getting a new one is a very major ordeal. Should I... 1) leave the **loose**...

    How much is too much

I've flip-plopped on this so many times my neck hurts. Then I thought of a picture of a cam profile being shrunk. All the proportions remain the same. Then it hit me - lift is absolute. You can shrink the base circle so the lift remains the same and "fatten" the bottom of the lobe so the...

    Don"t touch that bolt

As for the pump "passion". (And maybe I'm pulling a night-crawler out of this can of worms) But what is the purpose of spring loading the pump gear in the valve cavity? I wondered if for some reason they wanted to pump to "float" between two springs. Is it just a way to hold it instead of a...

    Don"t touch that bolt

Wow. You guys really get into it. what a passionate group! Yes the plug has been replaced with a regular bolt and nut - though I didn't realize it had been a plug. It was holding the pump in place. 1) the mechanic that dismounted it said so and 2) there are bolt bite marks on the flat that...

    Don"t touch that bolt

I was searching for timing procedures for the oil pump gear to get the slot in the right place so distributor would line up. THEN I realized it doesn't matter where the slot is because the distributor cam is loose and you can put it where ever you need. (where's the smiley face with a palm...

    Vehicle Inspection

Long ago (20+ yrs) I was a NC inspector. I was honest both to my responsibility to the state and to the customer. Many customer used to just buying a sticker in other shops would get angry at us for actually checking out the car. We were required to go under and I would only pull a wheel if I...

    pin substitute

Hadn't thought of roll pins. I'll have to look to see if I can get them here. I thought of a piece of stainless welding rod.

    pin substitute

But this is an internal engine part and could do some damage if it let loose

    pin substitute

The pin that holds the oil pump gear on the middle shaft is rather bent up and I'd like to replace it. Getting a new one here is a bit complicated. What would be a suitable substitute - hard enough to not bend but not too brittle so we can forge a shop head.

    How much is too much

The engine runs fine, I just decided to check it while the cover was off. I ran my fingers over the cam lobes (mostly to see if I was off the lobe) and didn't feel wear which I would expect to be a rough surface, really sharp edges and sudden contour changes) and they felt ok. Except for...

    How much is too much

I've read several threads on valve lash. I've got way too much but they're not adjustable. Ours vary between 17 and 25 thou. At what point must I pull the head and remove the valves and try to close the gap?

    Crankshaft end play

We've got 25 thou and you're saying 130 thou ran OK? I just measured, I've got about another 15 before rod #3 starts touching the piston. It isn't centered.
