    Crankshaft

I HAVE QUESTION, is the 1948 crank interchangeable with 1946 in flathead V8 ? Thanks

    T-5 transsmission

Thanks for all the inputs and suggestion, I take them all very seriously. On topic of moving engine forward is relatively easy. Don't forget these trucks also used to come with 6 cylinder. (much longer than V8) There is lots room between fan and radiator(6") so you do not have touch fan or rad...

    T-5 transsmission

Sorry Mark if I offended you, I guess I should have say, that I do not have to butcher or cut or add cross members and that way keeping the truck stock original. What I meant, minimal modification. Thanks for a reply anyway. Sid

    T-5 transsmission

Thanks for a very detailed and comprehensive answer and that link is just perfect. My problem is finding suitable parts. Here in south western Canada it is almost impossible to find used S-10 trany. I did find one 600 miles north of here and that is electric speedo, so that would be '88 and...

    T-5 transsmission

Thinking putting S-10 5sp trany in my '46 Mercury 1/2 ton. Got most of the parts for conversion. Question is what you do with the cross member, behind the trany, without brutally butchering it. Truck is completely original with 3sp on floor. Thanks for any info.

    oil leak on 59 A

Thanks for a tip "37 truck", I had no intentions and would not even dream to have the engine outside, it is in my house garage but I live in very damp area, especially in winter, and that is when I'll be away.

    oil leak on 59 A

Ya it is dripping just siting on the engine stand, which surprised me, visioning that I have to pull it apart again. Engine was not started after rebuilt. I was hoping for something what "alanwoodieman" said. Thanks. Ya, in the old country, we always filled rebuilt engines full of 10w oil, if...

    oil leak on 59 A

Sorry, I should have said I filled engine up to cam gallery with 10w oil for storage purpose only, since it is going to sit on stand for six month or so. No, I am not going to run the engine when installed in the truck.

    oil leak on 59 A

Rebuilt and had rotating assy. balanced on my '46 1/2ton Mercury. Have to leave country for several month, before I had chance to install the engine. Primed the oil system with non detergent motor oil and fill the crankcase with !0w motor oil up to lifter level. My question is: is it normal...

    Head gasket

Hi again, I understand now that there are two designs of head gaskets for 59 A engine. One with big holes and one with small ones. I was not aware of this, Is this something to do with improved cooling? Can I use the one with the big holes or is it going to overheat? Thanks.

    distributor

Martin don't take me wrong, I do not seek hi speeds. Yah I'll be happy with 60 mph. Just have to hook up tachometer and and find what the rpm is. I don't really know, just sounds like a lot and ofcourse vibration is there regardless! But I think I would have to do the inevitable. Just get...

    distributor

Thanks everybody, at 50mph sounds very busy and feels like that is all it would do. Didn't want to push it any higher. Unless it has low gears in diff. Can't find any numbers on diff. I guess will take the engine out this winter and take it apart, see what I can find. Originally I had this...

    distributor

Thanks Scooter, I am a automotive mechanic and a machinist of 40 years, but I am relatively new to flatheads. I thought and I was told, that these engines are smooth as silk, like you say. I am trying to get to 50 miles per/hr and the vibration gets pretty unbearable estimating 3500 RPM. Had...

    distributor

First, thanks for valuable advice. I was quite happy with front mounted dist.(single cap), but I was going to adapt chevy harmoning ballancer, due to unexplained higher RPM buzzing vibration and the dist. does not allow enough clearance. The engine is completely rebuilt, incl. crank and rebore.

Can a guy switch '46 front mounted dist. to a side dist like on later flatheads? Can this be accomplished by switching front timing cover? Thanks
