Choke butterfly shaft removal, which side?

Which side of the carb (standard Zenith) does the choke butterfly shaft come out of, or will it come out either way? I am considering epoxying on the external lever that turns the shaft but if it would need to be removed to pull out the shaft I am not going to do that. This is really hard to...

    Break peddle adjustment maybe

I went to a baseball game in Fenway this past summer, and there was NO WAY I could sit in the original wooden seats. Had there not been empty seats in my row I would have to have moved. Obviously no one was as tall as me when the stadium was built. 1912? CHAZ

    Break peddle adjustment maybe

I am 6'4" and had much the same (worse?) problem. I was lucky enough to have a fordor, so I just moved the entire seat mounting back several inches. I saw in an earlier post there is a way for you to get 4", I think that would be enough. It doesn't take as much as you would think to make...

Ignition parts - distributor, ignition switch, caps, rotors....

I switched to an FSI ignition, and have all the parts that I had in reserve, as well as those I pulled off to sell as one lot. Distributor, has modern top plate as well as a spare. The distributor has the fake condenser on it. Modern cap and new wires Original style cap and a pile of brass...

    Ordered my FSI

I saw that from the installation instructions and diagram I checked out online. My brother is really good at the electrical side of automotive repair, so I am going to be leaning on him for installation help. I ordered an ignition switch from them as well so I have everything from one source...

    Ordered my FSI

While I have worked on older cars, this is my first Model A. I have had intermittent drivability problems. I rebuilt the carb and feel that I removed that as the problem. The distributor wasn't even in the motor when I got the car, and I am not sure what I have. It seems like a mismatch of...

    Ordered my FSI

I finally got around to ordering an FSI distributor. Actually I told them I wanted everything new from the battery to the spark plugs, so I am getting the works. Hopefully when that is finished I can eliminate the ignition system as being a source of trouble. I can't help but put a plug...

    Mouse repellant

Another vote for dryer sheets. Go to the dollar store and buy a gross of the cheapest ones you can find. I use them in my camper over the winter, and (crosses fingers) so far haven't had any trouble. CHAZ

    Can't get spark!

I found this very helpful for timing. http://modelabasics.com/Ignition.htm I had zero knowledge of model A ignition and successfully timed my A using that site. CHAZ

    Electrical tale of woe

Would me disconnecting the ammeter isolate the alternator and explain why the car runs fine now? All the accessories work when the car is running, they just don't with the alternator not turning. I can easily pull the alternator and take it to a local shop to have it checked out. CHAZ

    Electrical tale of woe

I will wire it into a circuit and put a load on it and see what I get. I just wish I knew what caused all the trouble in the first place. CHAZ

    Electrical tale of woe

No splices. I have enough left to make a new proper set. Correct wire (maybe a bit heavier) good modern insulated wire, cloth wrapped. CHAZ Mitch, I love your website! Plenty of glamour shots of the A

    Electrical tale of woe

Update: I'm an idiot. I pulled the wires out of the dash today and made up a new set. I cut the ammeter wires each about 2" short. I have just enough materials left over from an old rewire in a '53 Plymouth to do another set. Maybe a little longer this time. I still would like to...

    Electrical tale of woe

Before I burned the wire off the car ran, although poorly. I couldn't put a load on the motor. After the wire burned I put on a new condenser and points, and a new coil, and of course replaced the ignition wire and it runs fine now, albeit with the ammeter disconnected. I have a wiring diagram...

    Electrical tale of woe

Yup, that is what I got. This is the first model A I have ever dealt with, so I didn't realize what I had wasn't "normal." I had to bring up the bottom plate, and "recontour" the top plate contact to get voltage to the points. CHAZ "What ignition wire fried?" The wire that burned was the...
