On my '55 I had a similar problem with the whirring starter, it worked on the bench but I replaced it anyhow with a starter a friend had and still it wouldn't engage. It turned out that the ring gear had broken free and the starter wouldn't catch. Might be worth checking the ring gear! Chris

Being in the UK where we get a lot of damp and cold weather I've found the best option for defrosting windows is to use the AC. Unfortunately I've never had AC in my own cars, but I find it always defrosts the screens in the modern cars I've driven.

I've managed to fix it! The rubber pad under the centre badge was loose, so I dabbed a bit of glue on both ends of it, reassembled it and now my horn works perfectly with no more embarrassing random "HONKS". Thanks again everyone for your advice.
