UPDATE: I studied the area and decided that there was no reason for a chain drive. The tube surrounding the area is bolted securely on both ends and there is no possibility of the flex that a chain drive would dampen. I custom built a drive shaft out of 1 1/4 tube by mig welding the O.D. spline...

Update: I have cut the sprocket off of the spline side. Spline is in excellent shape. Plan is to MiG the new sprocket on. I lost 1/4 inch after cutting and grinding flat. I am thinking that I will cut the teeth off of the pinion side and MiG the new sprocket on. I had a local old school guy...

    Grinding Noise

I have found the problem!!! There is a chain that connects the OD to the rear end. It has destroyed itself! I don't yet know where the rest is. Thoughts? Splines look OK. Where can I find this chain??

The problem is definitely in the tube that connects the OD to the rear diff. Whatever connects in there, is grinding hard. I put it up on jack stands and put it in gear. Absolutely no doubt the noise is in that spot.

    Grinding Noise

Hey All, I was sitting at a full stop, put the car in gear, and it wouldn't move. just a grinding noise coming from the tube between the rear diff and the overdrive. I have attached a couple of pictures with arrows showing where the noise is coming from. I believe I have a Borg Warner overdrive...

    Noise in Transmission

Yeah. I thought it did, but after thinking about it, I'm not sure. Sorry about that. It definitely did it with the trans out of gear and pushing the clutch in made no difference.

    Noise in Transmission

Thanks Benson! I'll give that a try. In regards to the amp meter, I am not convinced that is working properly. I have only had the car four months, but it has always read high. I found a good excessive output test that I will run to make sure.

You know Mitch, my first thought was throw out bearing issue. I'll pull the cover and see what is going on. Do you know of a posted procedure for greasing the bearing?
