I have a very nice overdrive trans from a 49 v8 for sale. It is complete, very clean, and in good working order. I will include the clutch plate and flywheel/ring gear but I am using the stamped bell housing for another project. Asking $400.
Well I have seen lots of 350 short blocks in S-10s so its pretty common. After all it is a truck chassis. I figure if needed it should not be that difficult to make upgrades for additional weight. I already put a 350 short block i 400HP n an MGB without any suspension modification and thats a lot...
I agree the overdrive is a big plus. One concern in this project is that I'm starting with a bare S-10 chassis and Studebaker cab so I do not have any of the clutch/pedal components for the conversion so going auto would be a lot simpler.
I just saw a TV episode on Wheeler Dealers where they put an automatic in a 53 ford pick up with a flat head and in the end it ran great but there are no details on which trans or adapters were used.
Is the C4 a better way to go if your thinking automatic?
I'm looking to upgrade my 49 Merc flathead with overdrive transmission to either a T-5 or AOD automatic. I have seen both conversions but not sure what the advantage and disadvantages of either are for both assembly and performance. Any feed back would be appreciated.
So I'm dropping a 49 Merc...
Has anyone adapted/mated a GM (or other) power steering pump to a 49 Merc Ford Flat 8 ? I'm dropping the engine into an S-10 chassis that has a power steering gear box.
Thanks
Can anyone recommend a product that will actually remove automotive primer. I have some paint stripper that cuts right through the paint but doesn't make a dent in the primer.
Good tip..I have some PPG DX579 metal cleaner which is phosphoric acid base but when I use it I leaves a lot of surface rust a it dries. I found they have a second product dx520 to apply right after that neutralizes and coats however baking soda might just be the simpler and cheaper ticket.
