    Noise at higher RPM?

Perhaps if you try shorting out plug leads one at a time in turn may indicate which cylinder is noisy.Cheers

    Misfireing at idle.

We had problems recently with very rough idle.Turned out there was a tiny hole corroded between one of the cast iron intake manifold throats and the exhaust heat riser. Quite hard to find but another manifold fixed it.Cheers.

    More flathead questions.

I go with Graeme. Some Canadian engines had insert bearings. They were very thick shells and are now hard to find. The rods were big bore and I think would take floaters as compared to the smaller bore 8BA rods. Both cranks the same size.Cheers, Geoff

how can you tell the 1942 from 1947 pickup apart

I have a feeling the 42 had the fuel filler on the opposite side to later versions and did not have the reinforcing strip around the door window glass.Cheers.

Hi Tony.Yes I know both the blokes you mention.Don't know Rod that well but he gave me a photo of him and his mates running our car at the Ashley forest shingle hillclimb years ago.Said they pooled their beer money for fuel. I know Russ quite well as we both run in the same vintage track class...
