    49-53 Flywheel for 10" clutch

Anyone have a flywheel for an 8ba for a 10" clutch? I can really use one. I have a 8ba flywheel for an 11" and a earlier 40-48 time frame flywheel with a 9" clutch. I don't need either.

What fasteners / bolts to use on the engine

Correct. I do NOT want to use stainless steel. I am thinking something like a black oxide or similar finish. I will look into Roy.

What fasteners / bolts to use on the engine

I am putting the 8ba together (slowly). I am missing a lot of bolts since they didn't come with the engine when I bought it. I am not looking to put SS bolts. So, I don't want to go down to the local Home Depot and buy cheap fasteners. I have a Fastenall near by and can order from grainger, but...

    Valves hitting heads

I bought them from Speedway and what they sell as stock for a flathead. I can measure again and even throw a picture up. Here is a picture of the clay on the valves.

    Valves hitting heads

OK, sorry for the hiatus, but I am getting back on it. 1. I put a head gasket on and no hitting of the valves. I tested them and my exhaust valve is closest on the top of it by just a little bit. I forget what the measurement was, but I will end up just having it machined a little bit...

    Valves hitting heads

You guys make it seem like once I run the engine with the cam there is no going back. I got it, you don't recommend the 400jr. Enough said. I have acknowledged this before and am doing it again. Am I still going to try the 400jr? Yes. Am I stubborn? No, but I already have it and it is in...

    Valves hitting heads

Thanks everyone for the input. I thought .018" was high also, I was thinking .014" based on what I read. I even called Isky to confirm and they said 'yes, .018 inch'. I would hope they know what they are doing, do you think I should bring it down to .016"? I want to see how this...

    Valves hitting heads

Thank you Walt. JWL, My goal is streetable car with a nice lumpy sound. Honestly, if I wanted high HP or torque I wouldn't be using a flatty, I would have just kept the Olds 303 that was in it. I am not racing the car or doing anything other than enjoying it. I based the cam on a few...

    Valves hitting heads

I'll try the grease on the valves. JWL, What is your reason for losing the 400jr? You don't like the cam? What do you prefer, L-100 or max1?

    Valves hitting heads

You think I would have bent valves with the bolts in loose? I still had 1/4" at least to the bolt head. The heads were never restricted by the bolts.

    Valves hitting heads

Ok, I am finally getting my 8ba together. I have an Ford 8ba, with stock valves, stock crank, Isky 400jr cam, and EAB heads. I just finished adjusting the valves at .018" on both intake and exhaust. The cam and crank gears only go on one way and I lined the dots/hash marks up. So, my...

    8BA flathead valve lapping

The question is, am I good to continue? I want to make sure these valves and seats are good before I continue with the build. Thanks for all of the input. Based on the recommendations I have dyed the valves and seats using a sharpie marker. I have only done the driver side cylinders so far...

    8BA flathead valve lapping

I ordered stock SS valves and this is what I received, see pics. Do I not have stock 8ba valves?

    8BA flathead valve lapping

Ronnie, can you explain the blurring or marker process so I can check it? Why wouldn't those processes wouldn't lap?

    8BA flathead valve lapping

The exhaust is 45 and the intake is 30. Do I have enough area that is lapped? I want to make sure there is enough contact for a good seal before I start sticking the pistons in.

    8BA flathead valve lapping

I started lapping my valves and as usual, I have a question. How much of an area should have the grind mark on it for the valve seat? Please note my machine shop is flathead savvy and they ground the valve seats, I have hardened seats only in the exhaust. I have new SS valves, stock intake 30...

    Flathead Disassembly Help

Sorry, I fat fingered the number. Yes, it is .023". So, will this cause a problem being .005" over sized? I did get Permatex assembly lube for the bearings. I didn't see the lubriplate at the auto parts store. I have the one piece front oil seal and the rope rear seal. The rope rear seal...

    Flathead Disassembly Help

OK, checked the mains and they are .002 for two and between .0025 for the third. Real question, so I put a few of the compression rings in the cylinder, at the top and bottom, measured the same. I measured all the pistons with one ring and received a consistent reading on the top and bottom of...
