That does make sense because of the recess area and the threads don’t go all the way up. Not sure if I can find a copper washer that size. The OD of the threaded part is 7/8” Thanks

The drain plug started leaking gas. I removed the plug and it looks like to me that the treads do not seal the plug, but rather the outside flange lip seals when tighten against the gas tank. If so,what do I use for a sealant? Or ? Thanks

Thanks for your responses. The play of 6” was referenced at the steering wheel. From center of steering wheel 6” free play counter lock wise and clock wise. My steering box has the star washer on top. I did not adjust the steering box myself. Had a shop do it and not 100% sure they knew what...

The steering box on my 56 Merc Wagon has been adjusted as far it will go. There is still quite a bit play maybe 6” each way. It’s difficult to find anyone that can rebuilt these boxes. Question: I want to keep driving the wagon but will the steering box eventually fail? I can handle the...

Thanks everyone for your comments. I checked the sender unit gasket and it was dry. I will check the hoses at the filler tube. I also will drive the wagon and get the gas level down to see when it stops smelling. Thanks again

I started to notice that every time I fill up the gas tank on my 56 Merc wagon I get a strong gas smell inside the car. I have checked for gas leaks from the carburator back to the gas tank with nothing showing up. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks AR

The gas tank on my 56 Merc Wagon starting dripping gas at the bottom plug and thought it should be an easy fix. I was going to tighten the plug but cannot come up with the right tool to tighten it. Looked in the manual with no results. Any suggestions Thanks AR

Thanks guys for your input. I removed the vapor vent dust cover to look at the pump rod and plunger. I noticed it was very hard to push down and it would slowly come back up. I realized that it was sticking. I pushed it up and down several times and it freed itself. Carburetor is now getting...

I check filter screen and there were no obstructions. It looks like if it is the accelerator pump diaphragm I will need to disassemble the carburetor to replace it. No short cut - right ? Thanks
