    12 volt batteries

Newer Optima batteries are now apparently made in Mexico. You might check Amazon and read poster's feedback there to get an idea of satisfaction. I changed my mind on Optimas and bought an Exide made battery from Costco.

    Paint help please

Why not go to your local auto paint dealer-supply source, rather than depend on potentially receiving ?? info. The paint dealer might also offer a suggestion of using single stage rather than base/clear.

8ba crank black rear seal--neads oil soak?

Walt, the engine is a '52 Merc--all is original. Maybe I did not properly describe the retainer in using the words "V-style" for the retainer. the retainer fits into a V-slot in the block, the retainer opening for the seal is a half-round channel.

8ba crank black rear seal--neads oil soak?

My gasket kit has two fiber rope seals and also the black ones which I believe is impregnated with graphite. It appears softer & more easily pressed into the V-shaped retainer. I assume that the black seal set does not need to be soaked in oil!! CORRECT?? Thanks again to all for advice.

    Sleeve on front of crankshaft??

The original sleeve looked a bit pitted so I ordered a new smooth sleeve (w/o grooves) and the full circle seal for the front of the 8ba crank. Turns out that the new sleeve slides on rather easily, yet the original Ford sleeve requires a bit of effort to get it on the shaft--like a moderate...

From having collected spare parts here & there from old junker motors, i am in the process of cleaning up and getting rid of some items. So, can you help to identify what year this distributor is? At the top is a "3"--at the bottom is 35513. Near the bottom bolt hole is stamped "LOMAC" The...

    Cost shipping to Austrailia?

Just last month I was swayed to sell to a fellow in Perth. A one pound item cost $25.+ which included tracking only in the USA and no insurance. I sweat it out but after two weeks the item arrived. I cannot understand such costs. So from here on out my ebay selling will be limited to...

Pulley & parts assembly @ crank front??

First: The new 8ba crank is in, checked out plastiguaged @ .015, so all is A-OK so far & turns freely with assembly lube. The crank gear is installed with the proper small key. So the oil slinger slides on and has a keyway slot but there is no key for that slot to fit into because the gear's...

    Wirefeed welders

First bought a cheapo Silver Beauty, not too bad. Picked up a Century=better, then bought a Miller=very impressive & superior machine. Another point I was told is that the larger machines usually have more range ability and will usually do a better job of welding finer thickness metals...

    Evaluate these cracks!!

Have a block marked C8BA, so I assume "C" indicates that it is a Canadian vintage. It has sleeves and hard seats. The only cracks are similar to those in the images--no others visible around the valve seats or cylinders. So, what about these three I have shown. Fix or no fix? If...

Help removing front oil galley plug--8BA!!

THANKS & THANKS again for the helpful suggestions. Followup; 1. Heated, applied the wax a couple times--no luck. 2. Drilled out the center and again repeated the heat/wax 3. Voila! I got it to move a very little bit, followed with the easy-out. A good day & the block will be on its way...

Help removing front oil galley plug--8BA!!

That front plug just above the cam is frozen, like welded in. I tried to remove it with an allen wrench but it sort of eggated out & did not budge. I have always soaked rusted bolts in Kroil for a few days and they seemed to come out rather easy. But NOT in this 8ba!! I warmed it up a bit...
