Dont wait until it is too late

I'm 76, been here 14 years, and still feel like a little kid sitting at the feet of giants. Thank you all.

Pondering trying to sell my 36 pick up

I'm going to agree. Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace can both be searched nationwide by anyone with modest computer skills -- and any guy in the hunt for a specific vehicle will have alerts set up when one comes online. By ignoring these two resources, you're probably ignoring a couple of...

Don't you just love the USPS

I've had the same carrier here in Santa Cruz, CA for years. He always takes a moment to stop and chat about projects in the shop. When he was on vacation a small package was supposedly delivered, and wasn't. I called the local Post Office and the Postmaster answered himself -- on the second ring...

    36 five window interior panels

I used clear heavy plastic over the door and a Sharpie to outline the size and locate all the mounting and window crank holes, tabs etc. I then transferred that to thin Luan plywood (make sure the grain runs horizontally). The mounting clips are available and cheap. I had already carefully...

Best chemicals/solutions/goops to clean off gear oil, etc. on a chassis

I'm a Simple Green fan, too, but whatever you choose, buy one of those small, cheap plastic kiddie pools to slide under your work area.

    Clamshell Sealing Question

I'm resealing the U-Joint Clamshell in my '35 coupe: it has a '39 trans, '40 rear end, '37 rear trans mount. Should I use a Permatex-style sealer on the two paper gaskets between the clamshell and the back of the trans? Do you apply any sealer along the horizontal edges where the upper and...

Topped off trans -- now synchros are glitchy

I swapped out the Lubriplate for a GL-4 140W. It gets warm here so I didn’t go for the 85-90. The difference in shifting is remarkable. Lots smoother. Thanks.

Topped off trans -- now synchros are glitchy

True. GL-4 doesn't attack yellow metal.

Topped off trans -- now synchros are glitchy

I’m pretty sure that’s my issue. I picked up some GL4 140 yesterday and will drain and refill in the next day or two. I’ll report back. Thanks.

Topped off trans -- now synchros are glitchy

My '35 coupe has a '39 trans and a '40 banjo, both newly rebuilt. I've put somewhere between 50 and 100 miles on the car. Today I climbed underneath and topped off the trans. I'm running Lubriplate SPO 288 in both the trans and the rear end. I added oil it it until it just started to come put...

wide five lug nut torque and direction

Thanks. Tires are Stahl Excelsior: 5.50-16 and 7.00-16. They have a tallish profile like bias-plys. The wheels are stock Ford Wide-Fives in front and Ford accessory "Farm Implement" wheels in back. They're about an inch wider than the stock passenger wheels. I've heard them called "Manure...

Lacy's parts in CA ??? Trouble reaching ??

Their products are well-designed, beautifully-crafted, and the support lit is spot-on. I've never had an issue with Dennis not getting back, often within the hour. Try DM'ing him, it's not always easy to get out from under a car and over to the phone. Dennis carries most of the load now, like...

    Painless wiring kits

I've used American Autowire panels on a few cars, as mentioned above you only hook up what you need. There are no leftovers hardwired into your fuse block. The cleanest option is to do your own wiring. These cars are so simple you can do it yourself. I'd suggest an Enos "Blackbox" panel...

Early '35 Door Pull Hardware Color?

This '35 of mine has a Canadian VIN. It has a painted grille shell -- but two wipers and a plated windshield frame. The dash, window garnish, door handle and window crank handle, and pull cord keepers are all painted a dark brown -- not maroon -- but like I said, it was "restored" at some point...
