I have done a couple of them on F1 trucks. The first one I used a KN filter which is pricey. The second I used a Napa paper filter which was much cheaper.

I found a set of pliers at Pep Boys auto parts. Was a stock item with knurled tips that prevent the end of the ring from slipping off.

If it holds the hood up then springs are fine. I have worked on several of these and found the lower hinge pivot that bolts to the cowl is the culprit. Take the hinge off and get penetrating oil down in that lower pin and work the bracket back and forth. Will probably be very stiff. They get...
