    ‘38 V8-60 oil pan

Re: ‘38 V8-60 oil pan Terry, it is the blue oval between the drip hole and the starter mount. Thanks Deuce, I'll fill it.

    ‘38 V8-60 oil pan

‘38 V8-60 oil pan I had a look around the Barn forum and would like an experienced hand’s input. My oil pan’s lower bell has an oblong hole in it under the starter gear. I assume someone had an issue and this was the most expedient solution. Any thoughts about why and whether I should fill it?

    1937-48 Steering box rebuild

Thanks for pointing this out. I had noticed the VanPelt rebuild kit included those bushings and intend to replace them while I'm in there.

    1937-48 Steering box rebuild

Thanks Cas, I don't see anything resembling a drain, does it need to come out of the car to change fluid? I have never driven it, I just have some great access to it now that the engine & transmission are out.

    1937-48 Steering box rebuild

Does anyone have a copy of the article mentioned in this post? Our steering box is leaking like a sieve and I'd like to get a copy for reference. Thanks

What did you do today that was flathead V8 related?

Today started yesterday when I started pulling valve assemblies out of the '38 V8-60. I borrowed the long 'pickle fork' tool from my machine shop. It kept slipping and missing the grooves. I finally managed to get one of the exhaust valves out. That's when I discovered the fork opening is too...

    60 hp water pump removal

I’m looking for a pulley for the straight v8-60 pump. These cast pulleys must be pretty brittle as I had one broken at a machine shop when they tried to remove it. If anyone has a pulley or a too-bad-to-repair pump with the pulley on it, I’d appreciate being able to take if off of your hands...

    60HP fuel pump

Hi all, I need some help identifying our '38 fuel pump. It looks like the pics from Zeke3, but the bowl measures 2-1/4" OD. It also does not have a bleeder. If the pumps in the pics have the check-valve retainer plate then this one clearly does not and cannot since there are no screw holes...

    60 hp water pump removal

Would you explain the difficulties a bit KiWi? I've got the Van Pelt rebuild kits and have started taking mine apart. It will take a good bit of soaking just to get one of the springs to slide out. The other wasn't too bad. I'll have my son press the pulleys off at his shop and press the new...

    60 hp water pump removal

This post is for anyone who finds their way here looking for the spanner to remove water pumps from a v8-60. I ordered the referenced J.H. Williams wrench in post #4. It was too thick to fit between my pulley and the pump housing. I found a JW Winco wrench A52-55 Hook Wrench w/Nose that worked...

What did you do today that was flathead V8 related?

Today I made my first post to the forum since joining a month ago. I joined pretty much as soon as I started trying to bring a ’38 V8-60 back to life. My user name says Lisas38 since this is really my wife’s car. Her great aunt bought it new in Nashville, TN. It’s been passed down a time or two...
