Yes, you will need an adapter to space out the 42 - 48 distributor if you are using the original '38 cam and this adapter also converts the three bolt timing gear cover to allow mounting of the two bolt distributor. See photo.

Steve, This is a photo of the Houdaille front conversion that I used on my '48 which had the lever arm shocks originally. This was purchased in 1955.
