Thanks to all who helped me. Yes I was doing it wrong, but have not yet tried to do it the right way. I have the car in another garage while i work on another one.

I took the nut off and saw that the slotted bolt was under it. tried adjusting it but there is still way too much play. I guess I need to rebuild the box. Does anyone know of anyone who rebuilds them ? Or swap out.

Hi, my 41 merc has a lot of play in the steering, I changed the tie rod ends, and drag link. All of the play is in the steering box. I see an adjustment on top of the box but there is no slot in the bolt in the center. There is a star shaped washer under the lock nut. Anyone know how to adjust...

Have a very straight 30-31 radiator. No repairs ever or bent fins. I took it off a 31 sedan that had been restored, and sat in a garage for 20 years. No leaks but it will have to go to a radiator shop for boiling out or rodding it to get a good flow in it. Asking $200 plus shipping. Local guys...

Your condenser or coil might be the culprit. They can break down when hot, and once they cool down everything is ok. I replaced my condenser and had the coil rebuilt by a guy in Florida. he puts modern technology in them and guarantees them for a few years. The condenser I bought came from NAPA...

I pulled the top of the carb off and the bowl was dry. I put gas in the bowl, and put the top back on and it started and runs fine. But if I set it up for a few days the bowl drys out again. I assume the power valve is that part screwed into the bottom of the bowl, and it definitely is old.

Hi, my 41 Merc original carburetor goes dry in the bowl after a few days, and makes it hard to start without priming. Would a new Stromberg carburetor be the answer over trying to rebuild the old one? Any suggestions?
