    T5 pilot bearing

What's the Timken part number for the pilot bearing used with an 8BA and T5? The (presumably imported) bearing that came with my kit is making noise with only 1600 miles on it 🙄. I'd like to have a new one here before I pull the truck apart. Thanks in advance!

I'm looking for a copy of the Flathead Facts book. It seems that it's no longer available on Amazon or Ebay. It's best to email me at Southtowns27 at gmail dot com. Thanks!

Gas gauge - is this right?

None of that applies to my truck. It has an aftermarket Bob Drake sending unit in it.

Gas gauge - is this right?

Ok, I'm still running 6V. The issue I'm having is that when the tank is more than 5/8 full the needle is disappearing off the gauge way past full. Bending the float arm isn't going to correct that. I've found that my charging rate is set a bit on the high side, 7.6V. I've also since found...

Gas gauge - is this right?

How do they operate? Is there a schematic kicking around?

    Won't run past 3500 rpm

UPDATE: It runs. I talked to a buddy that races a flathead at TROG and the like. He mentioned that his magneto had a tendency to burn the cores out of spark plugs and it'll act just like I described. I thought no way, but I was running a 60,000V coil, relatively high compression, and a...

Gas gauge - is this right?

'46 pickup with restored gauge cluster. The gas gauge tends to read a little higher than what actually in the tank so I was experimenting with placing some low value resistors in the wire from the sending unit to the gauge to correct the reading. I was using 1 watt resistors and noticed they...

    Won't run past 3500 rpm

I have an 8CM in my truck with about 500 miles on it since being built. It's a stock rotating assembly, bored .060" over, with a Schneider S100 cam, Isky springs, and adjustable lifters. Offy heads and intake. I clayed the engine when it was built so I know the clearances are good. It won't...

    Fan help

Yes I am running 8RT truck pumps with wide belt. Understood that I need to use either the Merc fan I have now or a truck fan. The truck fans I've found also seem to be a couple inches too far forward. I guess at this point it's either start fabricating or just run it. @19Fordy - Thanks for the...

    Fan help

I have a '49 Merc 8CM in a '46 pickup and it has the Merc car fan on it. Ideally the fan should be half in and half out of the shroud, but it's almost 2 inches too far forward. I'm looking for something without the spacer between the fan and pulley to get the fan properly aligned in the...

    8RT / 8CM flywheel & starter interchangeability

I guess I should have added that this is for a T5 swap. I have none of the 8CM clutch parts, only the flywheel. It seems far easier to just use the 8RT flywheel that I already have instead of paying to have the 8CM flywheel redrilled. I'm pretty sure the throwout bearing included in the T5...

    8RT / 8CM flywheel & starter interchangeability

I have a flywheel off of an 8RT to replace my 8CM flywheel. This will allow me to run the readily available long style clutch. Will the 8CM starter and starter plate work with the 8RT flywheel? If not, exactly what do I need?

    Clutch help T5 to 8CM

I've also since found the same info about the Merc clutch. Is there any reason I can't run an 8BA flywheel and use the commonly available 10" Ford clutch setup?

    Clutch help T5 to 8CM

I'll be swapping an 8CM Merc and T5 into my 46 pickup. The Merc came with the original flywheel and a stamped steel ring that I refer to as a bellhousing, see attached pic, but no clutch parts. I have the aluminum adapter that bolts to this ring that the T5 then attaches to. What size clutch...

46 pickup 8BA swap generator help!

Hey guys, I'll be swapping an 8BA into my '46 pickup. On the 59A in the truck the fan is attached to the end of the generator. I just noticed that the pulleys on the the 8BA are much farther forward away from the block than they are on the 59A. What are my options for adapting my current...

    Valve springs snug on guides

Working on building a '49 Merc. This engine was rebuilt many years ago but never fired. I tore it back down and I'm doing a nice mild hotrod build. The engine has new aftermarket valve guides in it. I bought a new set of Isky valve springs but they're just slightly snug on the guides. Do...
