    Intake questions

Thanks for everyone’s input. It was important to me to get a idea of what the larger port might be for because the manifold I put on my engine doesn’t have it. I was honored today to be invited to join a coffee klatch of ten flathead enthusiasts discussing their flathead building/driving...

    Intake questions

I took this intake off my engine because the flanges that position the generator bracket are broken. My question is about the two ports seen in the photo. I think I know what one of them is for, but rather than show my ignorance. I am asking for your input. While I am asking questions about...

    Lubricating fan?

Thanks to all that responded. I am convinced that the fan hub does need to be serviced. Even though the 49-50-51 Ford F- series truck shop manual Chapter VI, section 12, FANS AND BELTS says it doesn’t. Apparently Ford wasn’t aware. I talked to a couple of engine builders in my area and they...

    Lubricating fan?

I need help from those on Fordbarn that are more familiar with the fan assembly on the 49-53 V8. I was leafing through the 2021 Van Pelt LLC parts catalog and I noticed on page 88 an article titled “Service and How-Tips for the Oil Filled Fan Assembly “. It has a photo that looks exactly like...

    Alternator bracket not fitting right

Thanks for everyone’s input. It seems the shaft on the fan bracket isn’t adjustable in and out, so the plate idea is out. I took the whole assembly to a local blacksmith/metal fabricator/welder today. I don’t have 51 MERC-CT’s skills at illustration, unfortunately, but after studying it, he...

    Alternator bracket not fitting right

Ggmac mentioned speedway’s bracket, but I have a motorcraft 3-wire alternator and speedway’s bracket appears to be for a single wire GM alternator. My bracket’s upper arms are offset front to back. Similar to 19Fordy’s photos. Plus my engine has wide belt pulleys on the crank (2), water pumps...

    Alternator bracket not fitting right

Yes, the front my intake has the “channel “ to position the alternator bracket from side to side. It’s not a great fit but it’s ok. Like Mart said, I also had the idea that I could file little bit off the flanges on the fan bracket and then manufacture a slightly larger washer that would...

    Alternator bracket not fitting right

I bought a 1950 f1 that was converted to 12 volts with an alternator and a bracket that doesn’t appear to be manufactured well. If the photos display I hope to show that the square spacer/washer that holds the bracket to the intake is barely “catching “ the left side. I am afraid that during...

Ok. Thanks V8COOPMAN. I have printed the instructions so hopefully I don’t have to ask again.

    Posting photos

I know this has been addressed numerous times but when I search for “ how to post pictures “ . It shows that “how to “ is too common and I get every post that has a picture attached. Will someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

    Tonneau covers for 48-50 f-1’s

Re: Tonneau covers for 48-50 f-1’s Thanks TJ. I did go to LMC site and they did have Velcro cover but it specifically says it fits 51-56 Flareside only. I will try calling them during the week. I don’t know what the difference between a 51-56 Flareside bed and my ‘50 f1 bed might be.

    Tonneau covers for 48-50 f-1’s

Tonneau covers for 48-50 f-1’s I have seen some nicely fabricated tonneau covers on some truck beds over the years but I never paid much attention. Now I can see the merits of having some sort of cover on the bed to keep incidental cargo out of sight while not attended. I did a search here but...

    Identification help for Ford rearend

I took the bed off my 1950 f1 in order to clean it up and now everyone that sees the truck mentions that I don’t have a 1950 rearend installed. Nobody is sure what application it comes from(year/model, etc.) but they believe it is Ford because of the large hole to access the axle bolts. I am...

    Lubriplate/something better?

I want to thank everyone who gave input. I used anti-seize on the contact points since I already had it on hand. I wish I had known about the Wurth penetrant because I twisted the brake line to one wheel cylinder while trying to remove it. Now I get to practice bending brake line.

    Lubriplate/something better?

I’m doing the brakes on a 1950 f1 and the Ford manual says to use Lubriplate on all metal to metal contact points. I am wondering if there isn’t a modern lubricant that’s even better. For instance during my online search one Fordbarner mentioned Permatex silicone ceramic brake lubricant...

Ordered a new master cylinder from Vanpelt today. Thanks for everyone’s input, BergieB.

    Bleeding brakes- not working

I now have the reservoir out and in a vise. Now I can see that the plunger is frozen (rusted?) in the fully “in” position. Is it feasible to attempt to rescue/rebuild this unit? Will removing the brake switch on the rear of the unit allow access to plunger from that end where some sharp taps...
