Looking for pitman arm for Toyota PS box swap

Hi folks. I'm looking for a pitman arm that would work with a Toyota steering box swap in my '52 Merc M1. Mid-Fifty shows them on their website, but they don't have any in-stock and don't have any idea when they will again. They suggested I call CPP, and they don't seem to have any either, and I...

New guy with a 1952 Flathead

I couldn't remember if I had actually posted any pics or not, but here she is at a little local car show yesterday. It was just a quick cruise in, maybe 20 cars showed up.

New guy with a 1952 Flathead

After a few weeks of searching, I found a nice set of 8BA heads. They had already been cleaned up and painted, but they could use a skim to clean up the faces, even if I wasn't going to cut them down (which I probably will). I've been doing some reading on how to measure the clearance with putty...

    Driving The 52 Merc

Greetings from the Maritimes Ralph! Nice scenery, and nice drive. I've only ever experienced Saskatchewan from the TCH. I'd like to see more of it someday. I have a good friend in Swift Current.

    ‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play

Re: ‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play Hi Folks, As of late last night, I finally have the old '52 back in business, but it looks like I may have traded one problem for another. Transmission is back in with new 10" clutch and pressure plate, new ARP bolts, new throw-out bearing, new bronze pilot...

    ‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play

Re: ‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play Thanks for all the replies folks. Turns out the ring gear was cracked, so that explains why it was coming off. Cracked from a previous installation or just because it’s 70 years old? I don’t know. Anyway, I have a new one on order and it will be here next...

    ‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play

Re: ‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play Yes that is the issue with this installation. The home made adapter plate is barely 1/4” thick, so the input shaft is too far forward. I’m working on putting it back together for now to get the rest of the season out of the truck. I’ll look at a better...

    ‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play

Re: ‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play The adapter "kit" is just a homemade plate as far as I can tell. There are two sets of holes in the flywheel, I assume the slightly smaller diameter set are for a 10" pressure plate? I assume this flywheel is an original one as it has the Ford script...

    ‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play

Re: ‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play You guys were right. The ring gear is off...way off. I didn't realize until I took this all apart that the starter bendix pulls forward...the same direction that can pull the ring gear off the flywheel. In any case, it was certainly pulled off...one side...

    ‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play

Re: ‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play I just got home so I'll pull the flywheel in a little while. Have a couple chores to do first. I see that I can't upload pictures on here. Are there any sites that will host pictures these days that you can link to? If the ring gear is pulled off its seat...

    ‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play

Re: ‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play Oh the starter ring gear is removable? That hadn’t occurred to me and the flywheel is still on the engine. I’ll pull it tonight and have a look. That actually makes more sense based on the sound I was hearing. If you guys are saying that crankshaft end play...

    ‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play

‘52 Flathead crankshaft end play Hi folks, I finally pulled my transmission last night (S10 5spd) on Flathead bell housings. There had been a scraping noise when the clutch was pushed in, but it would go away and be smooth and quiet with the clutch out while driving. I thought it was the throw...

New guy with a 1952 Flathead

Done! I'm in Canada, way out on the east coast...east, or northeast of Maine. I always joke that we get Boston's weather, just a day later. I've put some feelers out locally and may have found some heads. It will take a week or so for everybody to see my ads and reply, but they'll turn up...

New guy with a 1952 Flathead

Well if I was close I'd be coming by to grab a set of those heads lol. Thanks for all the info. I guess the EAB's would be the best and 8BA's if not.

New guy with a 1952 Flathead

Thanks all for the great info! I'm on the hunt for a set of 8BA or EAB heads, and if I can find a decent set I'll swap them out this winter. The spare heads that came with the truck are a passenger 8BA and a driver's side 8RT. The 8BA head is cracked in the middle, so I don't know if it's...

Checking oil pressure and installing gauge

Hey guys, I'm wanting to check the oil pressure on my '52 flathead, and I see there are two senders or a sender and a switch at the back of the block on the driver's side. There's a single wire sensor mounted in the vertical position, and a 2 wire switch? mounted in the horizontal position. Can...

New guy with a 1952 Flathead

Thanks for the welcome guys! So I have do some reading on cylinder heads. The previous owner removed the 2 spare heads that he gave me, and 8BA passenger side, and an 8RT from the drivers side. Me not knowing any better I assumed they were different numbers because they were different sides...
