    '51 8BA Rear Seal Holder

Howdy Guy's, Does the rear seal HOLDER on an 8BA flathead need to be glued/siliconed in to place to prevent any oil leaks? It doesn't seem practical that it just sits there floating around without allowing oil to seep past it. Thanks to any contributors.

    Mercury Green

Great photos all. I have some remnants of green paint on the '51 timing cover and it appears to be the original paint and a lighter shade of green. Most of the engin had been painted with a metallic type blue paint.

    Mercury Green

Can any of you good fellows post a picture of what "Mercury Green" looks like on a flathead. I have a 1951 Canadian C1BA flathead and my research seems to come up with "Mercury Green" as being the color.

engine number . . . or serial number?

The 8BA engine is Mercury built with a serial number stamped on the Top Right Rear part of the engine block where the intake manifold bolts on. This number is completely different to the other matching numbers so I cant tell if the engine is original to this pickup or not.

    Anzac Day

Great post Lawrie. We in NZ stand side by side with Australians to remember our brave men who fought for our freedom. My grandfather fought at Passchendaele 1917 and was wounded and survived. Also a couple of great uncles who fought in the Spring Offensive 1918 at the Somme both were wounded by...

engine number . . . or serial number?

Great article Coop. The numbers on our '48 M47 Pickup all match on the 3 speed box, left front chassis rail and tag on firewall. But however the engine stamp (with a star at the end) does not match the others. Does an original 8BA engine/transmission "package" not have the same stamping on the...
