Holy mackerel !! Bob's sketches suggest the source of my problem. All four of my joints are assembled with the end plug screwed against the spring, none like his first photo with spring inside. I'll keep you posted.

Here's mine--the original, barely legible, duplicate on the frame behind the X, and readily visible on the firewall. The officer who verified the number said he would record only what he could see.

Keith--is that the same height from the face of the flywheel ? Threads about adjusting stock PP say to measure from the 'back', ie the trans side of the PP.

The PP is new from Early Ford V8 Sales, part no. 09A-7563-N. I fully expect that a weak spring is exactly the problem, but I don't see that there is adjustment like on the stock Model A PP
