Hallelujah! Now I need to learn about dropping the oil pan to clean out all the stuff from the old gear.

So how did the last picture I posted look? I moved it one tooth over from where it was.

I put the plate back on and and when I turned the engine over until the pin hit the dot. I took out the spark plug and it was TDC.???

So what does being off one tooth do exactly?

Here is a picture I took. I didn't see any markings on the crankshaft gear but a few places I read mentioned the key slot works also.

I bought a new gear, new gasket for that inspection window and a new oil pan gasket. Was really hoping to not have to do the whole radiator thing. Will be tearing into it tonight

Well after digging inti the car I finally found the reason it slowly lost power and died last week. After tearing things apart I found that the large timing gear was missing half of its teeth. Now my next question. Do I need to remove the radiator to change out that gear? How big of a task is it...

So I threw some pepper in there and it seemed like it stopped. I also noticed that the outside of the radiator (the chrome shroud) gets REALLY hot after only 10 min of running. Any ideas?
