My father and myself were driving our 1930 Model 'A Fordor Sedan in the countryside a long way from any real civilization. This was about 1968. We were running low on fuel and to our amazement there was a lonely fuel station in the middle of nowhere. We pulled in to a pump and there was not a...

You take possession of your brand new 1929 Model 'A' directly from the dealership. Getting it home, you remove the distributor cap and check the backlash in the drive by rotating the distributor cam with the cam screw locked in place. How much backlash do I have?

In the original late Model 'A' parts price list it shows only one tappet cover and it's associated oil return pipe. Pipe A-6645. Cover A-6520. There were two pipes and two matching covers, as we all know. I presume first generation is shown, as there is no 'B' prefix after the part number as...

Regarding the two oil return pipes and tappet covers. I presume the parts numbered: Oil return pipe A-6645 and a tappet cover A-6520 are reasonably early, probably 28 and part 29. Should the later parts be A-6645-B, and A-6520-B? Just as all the other parts are numbered in the parts book - 'B'...

Oil return pipe and valve cover parts anomaly in parts book. There were two Model 'A' oil return pipes and two valve covers each with their respective pipes. I have a parts book dated 1st July 1932 and it covers just about all mechanical parts except some of the really early parts. The book...

Kingpins. If the diameter of a new kingpin is 0.8125", what should the final honed bush inside diameter be? I would have thought 0.8127. Or is that a little on the tight side? Any thoughts please?

Centre punch the ends of each rod, and using a 1/16” drill bit drill a small shallow 1/16’ hole in the end of each. Push the two control rods through the new or good condition top bush and down to near the exit points on the steering column. Using a small unwanted screwdriver, grind a point to...

These pictures should give you some idea of how the stauntion attaches to the 'top bracket' which in turn screws to the wood bow at the junction where the metal bow meets the wood section. From memory there is not a lot of difference between the 28/29 and 30/31 top bows. I think the overall...

I think the pan came loose when you first drove the car. The noise would have disappeared when the big end scoop wore through the pan. Some pans need a good knock to get into place in the sump. Look for metal fragments in the oil. Best to drain the oil, remove the sump for a complete clean out...

My Ford was assembled in India.

I purchased an Ecosport, like yourself. Probably in 10 years time it will go through the crusher.

My New Ford Car. I’ve just purchased a new 2024 Ford. What a wonder. I find it unbelievable. It’s a 12-year improvement on my last car, a Mecedes. It talks to me. Tells me my speed and the weather. No way can I ever get lost and it tells me where to go, in a polite manner. The ride is really...
