Just as a follow up, Paul's chrome is willing to repair/re-plate but was very upfront about the cost involved. I respect that, so the hunt continues for a better candidate. I'll work on this one and get it as smooth and healthy as I can, could be painted and used on a driver or make a wall hanger.

Looking for a nice straight original with decent chrome, or Drake repop. Thanks, NJR

Hi All, I’m working on figuring out if this grill is worth recrhroming. Assuming repair was between the 50’s and 80’s. Look like brass/ bronze as there’s a copper sheen and it was not rusted or patina’d green or anything. What was common back then?

Weak acids are great for paint/patina safe rust removal. Citric acid (the orange cleaner mentioned above), vinegar, and oxalic acid are good, just rinse well after and protect your eyes/skin.

All is not lost...i have a 16 year old nephew who I will will my late fathers '34 roadster to because he's amazed by it.

I'm here for the knowledge and experience, but won't be contributing much as my project is largely OT. Thanks to all for your inputs. (Yes, 8 more posts to go before I can PM on the Classifieds to inquire about parts.) :)
