Having recently completed a 21 stud block with Scats 4 inch stroke crankshaft they make for the application here's what I did maybe this hopefully will help others. First the block was only over bored .060. the Scat crankshaft which was purchased last year actually fit the block correctly so no...

Well all I can say is Outstanding - Ryan your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Yes the ones that came from Ford in 1936 that I have come across all had the LB stamped on the blocks. Ronnieroadster

As written above over 100 ft lbs to rotate there's something wrong. 35 ft lbs to rotate an engine is a good number to shoot for. That's a typical number for a flathead what I call torque to yield of the rotating assembly. Ronnieroadster

GB my post was about the photo in the RobWi post. That photo is a 21 stud block. I agree the original post is about a badly cracked 24 stud block. Ronnieroadster

RobWi The fact your block is a 21 stud trying to keep the block from leaking at the bottom center bore stud holes in each cylinder is going to be extremely difficult. The 21 stud block even on a mild bore at times will crack at this location its a very weak area. Your drawing of the flanged...

Those radiator mounting holes are in the same location side to side. The right side fender is on the frame rail giving the impression the holes are in different locations. I can see the top of the fender and the factory notch in the fender to clear the radiator bolt-spring assembly. Ronnieroadster

I agree with Tony When flatheads were running on the local dirt ovals lots of tracks had a few rules about heads one rule was stock aluminum heads allowed another no finned aluminum heads. So to get around that rule lots of heads had there fines machined off. Edlebrock heads were typically used...

Thats it

Block Letter EDELBROOK. Ronnieroadster

Unfortunately that style of head gasket with those tiny little holes will cause the overheating issue your experiencing I'm not sure what brand the one you have is but there's many made that way. They may work on a stock fresh 239 cube flathead V-8 engine but anything modified with a head...

Intelligence that's ARTIFICAL why would anyone spend time asking such important question? Since your doing the right thing add 5 qts and then check the stick and mark it accordingly. Or the way I do it add 4 qts make a mark and then add the fifth qt for the now full mark. If its low you...

Tried that tool a very long time ago in the last century. First not enough torque to compress a spring and as Karl wrote above the size limits which spring it can even be located on. Ronnieroadster

The front rope I never cut shorter than the length they come. Which is the same length Ford made them. As to soaking the rope I don't do it never have and after a couple of hundred flathead engine builds I continue to do it this way. Only oil I use is on the rope surface is the area that...

I as well NEVER soak the rope seals in oil as KiWinUS wrote above. I also never shorten the front rope seals that come in the current Best brand gasket sets. For the front rope I simply place them in the front cover and oil pan than I use a round dowl to roll the seals down into each grove. I...
