Worn steering box on '46 sedan

How big a deal is it to replace a worn out steering box on my '46? Where do I get a replacement? Can they be rebuilt and if so, by whom?

    Enjoying the ride....until...

I love driving my '46 Tudor sedan, but the old girl left me on the side of the road last week. I was coasting down a small hill in third and when I tried to apply a little gas....nothing. I switched off the ignition and she immediately died. First thing I did was ensure there was plenty of gas...

    "slop" in steering wheel

I have several inches of play in the steering wheel of my '46 sedan. I understand there is an adjustment on the steering box that will take up some of this but it is not obvious to me how I do this. Suggestions?

    Hooking up '46 dash clock

I just installed a rebuilt dash clock in my '46 tudor sedan. It has two wires, one green and one brown. Which one goes to ground?

    Replacing '46 sedan speedometer cable

Imagine my surprise when I pulled the speedometer cable from my 1946 2-dr sedan and found it was only 22 inches long. No wonder the speedometer had not been working. So now I need a new cable and some instruction on how to get out the piece of cable that is still in the metal cable run. I assume...

    Broken lens on '46 speedometer

The speedometer in my '46 tudor works fine but the lens is broken. I purchased a new lens aftermarket but it was of such poor quality I returned it. Can anyone recommend an instrument restorer I can send this to for professional repair?

    Troubleshooting gas gauge problem

The fuel level gauge on my '46 Super Deluxe is not working. How do I go about troubleshooting and finding the problem? I don't want to "guess" that it is the float. The gauge has not worked since I acquired the car this summer. Other gauges work OK.

    Clock no work

The clock in my '46 Super Deluxe has not run since I bought the car and now seems to be a good time to tackle the problem. The fuse is good, but the reset button on the bottom of the face does not do anything when rotated. I assume this button is used to set the clock. If so, do I pull it out...

    Lowering '46 Tudor Sedan

I have a '46 Super Deluxe with all original running gear ('cept some minor mods under the hood) and I'm trying to decide if the car wouldn't look a little more hot-roddy if it were lowered an inch (or two). Anyone tried this? How is it done? Does a minor lowering mess up the steering and/or...

    Removing rear brake hubs

I have a '36 Tudor Sedan with what I believe are '39 juice brakes. The brake switch had been made before I bought the car. I have developed a strange noise at the right rear when the car is moving. It makes this little cherping noise with every wheel rotation. I removed the hubcap and wheel/tire...

    First drive of my '36

After 20 months of work, I took the '36 out today for the first extended drive. My wife followed in the pickup but no help was needed. We drove a total of 23 miles. Motor ran cool (190 degress) and smooth after warm up. Car rides like a buckboard (as expected) and the bias tires follow every...

Adding 12V battery to start 6V+ system

Recently someone posted a schematic on how to add a 12V battery in the starting circuit of a 6V+ system. The 12V battery powered only the starter, used a seperate starter button and was not connected to the cars charging system. Could you please post the information again? I printed the...

    Making woodgrain shine

I had a lady approach me in the supermarket parking lot to admire(?) the interior of my Jag. She sniffed and offered the opinion that the dash wood in her Chrysler Sebring looked as nice as that in my car. I explained to her that the reason her "wood" looked so good was because it was plastic...

    Making horns blow

Got the two horns on my '36 sedan and wired. They squak for an instant when the button is pressed but do not blow. I suspect this is a grounding problem but the horns are wired correctly and screwed directly to the chassis on a clean ground. With two wires on the horn, presumably one hot and...

    Wheels

My '36 sedan came to me with juice brakes using (I think) '39 Ford hubs and wheels. I want to ditch the wide lug pattern wheels and go to a modern wheel and wider tire. Current tires are 6.00/16 and dry rotted. I have heard that I can switch to '40 Ford wheels with a 5 1/2" lug pattern. True...

Need help with a parts search

I need a cylinder head bushing for the temperature probe on my 59A with Edelbrock heads. I called Edelbrock tech and got zero help. Can anyone suggest a source for this item?

    Firewall neatness

I'm disappointed that I can't seem to get the wiring coming thru the firewall on my '36 sedan to look as neat as other cars I have seen. Where can I but those metal brackets that secure the wiring fast (and neat) to the firewall. My harness is brand new and has all the required grommets on it.
