1940 coupe trunk handle won't open

This morning it took two hands to open my trunk (latch). The next time I tried, I couldn't for the life of me get the handle turned enough to open the trunk. I ended up cutting the base and through the shaft, leaving about 1". I was able to turn the shaft with vice grips and easily opened the...

    This is funny

I saw this on facebook. (And stole it). It sounds like some of the threads here. Enjoy and Happy New Year. "How many Facebook group members does it take to change a spark plug? 1 to change the spark plug and to post that spark plug has been changed. 14 to share similar experiences of changing...

    Centering steering, 39 Coupe

After rebuilding my front suspension, spindles, bushings, tie rods, etc., I turned my steering wheel lock to lock to find the center. The pitman arm points off to the right a few degrees. Shouldn't it point straight ahead?

    1939 floor mat, jute backing

How much of the floor should be covered by the jute? Clear up under pedals, or is that too far? And how close to the edge (near door) works best? Also, I seem to recall a mention of another pad that goes under all this. And one more.... I recall seeing a mention of a separate mat piece...

    1939 floor mat

I just received my new floor mat from Dennis Carpenter. It's very good quality! My question is about a shift boot. When I bought my coupe a few years ago, it came with a shift boot, and that mat was fairly butchered to make the opening around the boot. Is the boot a correct, original...

Do I need new brake lines?

I've finished replacing wheel cylinders, shoes, etc. Upon further inspection of the old cylinders, I discovered this mess. The question I have is, should I replace the brake lines and hoses?

    corn head grease

I went to the local farm store looking for John Deere Corn Head grease. They didn't know what I was talking about. (they sell another brand of tractor, but you'd think they would know). Anyway, what other grease works? Or what spec? I'm guessing the main brand they sell and service there...

    gasket sealers

I'm assembling my torque-tube to banjo, etc. I have paper gaskets. Should I use any additional sealer on the gasket (also torque-tube to transmission), or just the dry paper? Thanks

    re-building my rearend...(well, my coupe's rearend!)

I blew apart my rear axle housing to replace the inner seals that failed, wiping out my brakes. So, with the housing off the banjo, discover the ring and pinion is shot... the inner bearings and races are shot... unknown yet about the pinion bearings... So, everything will be refreshed...

    My father-in-law's truck

I came across this picture of my father-in-law's truck from back in the day when he owned a feed store and hauled hay from all over the northwest. Plus an F-1 hauling yard debris on the freeway the other day, and a couple F-1s, a 36 roadster and a 56 Ford I saw at shows this last weekend...

    rear brakes, seal, etc

I posted a couple weeks ago about a grabbing brake. Finally able to borrow a hub puller. Found what appears to be 90 wt oil in hub cap, and bearing area of drum was full of it. Bad seal apparently? The wheel cylinder doesn't appear to be leaking. I've read a lot of posts from searching...

    brakes grabbing

I drove the coupe for first time since middle of March. Light application of brakes going into a curve I noticed a pull to the left, which was new. Then a couple times rolling ton astop and fairly firm application of brakes, I had one wheel lock up and slide. (Only going 5-10mph at time)...

    headlight grounding

I was installing my new halogen bulbs (from little british car co.) and discovered newer wires soldered to lamp socket and sorta jury-rigged to a questionable ground. (one just had the strands wrapped around a screw) All the other wiring is original cloth-covered wires. Where/how should the lamp...
