How does water temperature gauge work?

I have one of the after-market water temperature gauges on my A. It uses a stiff cable-like connector between the water outlet neck, through the firewall at the junction box, and then to the gauge which is mounted under the dash. Today I was driving and the water temperature was indicating just...

    Float-A-Motor bolt tightness

My car has Float-A-Motor mounts. Recent engine work gave me the opportunity to install new biscuits. Question: how tight should the through-bolt be? Tightened all the way down with the biscuits compressed? Or left loose enough to cause little or no compression of the biscuits? Thanks. Bill Lee

    Installing valve seats

What is the procedure for installing valve seats in a Model A block? We have seats that are labeled "16875-5". They measure 1.691+/- OD How big should the seat be bored to give the proper fit of the new seat? I've read .005 interference when pressing the new seat into the block. No, I'm not...

    Ignition cable head bolt clamp

Car: '29 Tudor Pop-out ignition switch, quite likely a repo. The heavy cable routed through the terminal box and then through the clamp that is captured by a head bolt and nut, then to the distributor. Having to deal with that clamp is a royal PITA when doing any sort of maintenance on the...

    Judging Standards update sequence

The copy of the Judging Standards that I have is dated on the revision page as "Revised 1997". I bought Rev 4 updates and immediately realized that it was an update to a much later version than I have. What do I need to bring the "1997" version up to the point where the Rev 4 update can be...

    Radiator shell alignment

Car is a '29 Tudor. Just finished a major effort on the entire power train and now am having a problem I don't understand. Before adding the radiator shell, access to the ratchet nut on the crank through the front spring top clamp was simple and straight forward. But after installing the shell...

    Further on the Judging Standards

In another thread, I asked a question regarding what appears to be a discrepancy in the JS. Turns out that I have the 1997 version and it was suggested that I get the most recent version. I went to the MAFCA website and found that the JS are listed there (in the MAFCA Store) as well as...

    Judging Standards question

On page 4-7, in the section titled Fender Brackets, it says Mid-1928 through late 1929, forged fender brackets had round ends ... Then later in the paragraph, it says From January 1929 through the end of production, the front and rear fender brackets were stamped steel. Seems that...

Last evening I was taking the trash to the front gate in the pickup ('04 F-150). Had the tailgate down and backed into a tree as I was turning around in the dark.
