Becoming bored with my '65 Galaxie, ready to move on. Anyone want it??

Ready to move on to another automotive obsession; so I should sell this one: '65 Galaxie 500 2 door hardtop, 352 4-BBL dual exhaust engine, green dot automatic, power steering, freezing c-c-cold factory A/C, cloth & vinyl interior. A 57K unmolested survivor. Please PM me here or email me for...

OT: Anyone familiar with old Lincoln prices?

I'm looking at an '83 Lincoln Continental Mark 6 2 door, the "downsized" one after the large ones of the 1970's. Many car eXperts don't like this one, but I do! A low option (for this kind of car), no sunroof, velour (not leather) interior, base am-fm (no "Premium Sound") radio, 88K miles on...

    Timing chain "slop"?

What are the symptoms of a loose timing chain on a 352 engine?

Anyone drive a '53 Ford with factory power steering?

How was the steering effort needed? On par with a modern car, finger light or hardly any assist/boost at all? Was the gear ratio/lock to lock turns reduced with the factory power steering? I've read that the power steering pump was an awkward addition to the flathead v8 engine block, prone to...

Gotta replace the exhaust manifold gasket on my '65 Galaxie. Any tips/advice?

352 engine. It makes a "popping" sound under acceleration, still quiet when cruising. The local muffler shop verified that it is the driver's side exhaust manifold gasket leaking. Any recommendations/helpful tips/advice on how to make this as easy as possible?

What are you running for timing on your FE engines?

I tried adjusting my '65 Galaxie, FE 352 4-BBL engine at the factory spec of 6 degrees BTDC; but it doesn't run all that great. It feels slightly sluggish, bogs down/hesitates when leaving a stop sign. I did the old trick of timing it by ear, advancing it until it pings and then backing down a...

I am most impressed with the cooling system on my '65 Galaxie (pic below)

"Only" 88 degrees outside here in New Orleans, 65% humidity (Cool for this time of the year here!). This pic is after a 15 mile run, first 80% on Interstate 10, last 20% on 25 mph residential streets, 34 degree vent output temperature factory A/C on the entire time.. New belts and hoses, 180...

    A/C idler pulley availability?

The belt adjustable, A/C idler pulley on my '65 Galaxie, 352 engine, is starting to rumble and vibrate much than I want to tolerate. Anyone have a source for purchasing a new replacement part? Evilbay lists a couple of 'em for the 390 T-bird engines; but the chart availability doesn't list my...

WHY is there an air gap between the radiator and fan shroud on my '65 Galaxie?

Isn't it better to have all the fan clutch controlled engine cooling fan sucking ALL the incoming air thru the radiator and A/C condenser...and not also sucking air thru the appx 1/4 gap between the top of the fan shroud and the radiator?

Fast idle drops off to soon after sitting overnight...

....on my '65 352, Autolite 4100 4-BBl carb. I have the automatic choke set on 3 notches rich. Pump the gas twice in the morning, it starts immediately, fast idle cam on the highest notch. Gently goose the gas about 5 seconds after the cold soak (over night) start and the fast idle cam...

"Blow By" MUCH less! Rings were stickly?

A few guys here may recall my thread asking about excessive blow by from my low mileage '65 352 engine. After a fresh oil & filter change, with a quart of Risoline added, 300 miles later, the hot engine in drive blow by is greatly reduced. Down to about what I thought it should look like. I...

Would no mesh/steel wool in the PCV valve cover baffle produce more "blow by"...

Would no mesh/steel wool in the PCV valve cover baffle produce more "blow by"... on my '65 352 engine? The PCV valve cover baffle area on my car is empty. It appears that the previous owner dipped the valve covers and repainted them on the outside. The inner surface area is shinny clean...

59K or 159K? You tell me. (Pictures!!)

My recently purchased '65 Galaxie was advertised as a 59,000 mile car; although the seller had no documentation to prove it. Judging by the tightness of the gear shift lever, firmness of the driver's seat and lack of wear on the gas/brake pedals, the low mileage might be possible. I changed a...

On a '65 Galaxie should the "HOT" indicator light up when key is turned on?

When turning the key to the "on" position (not yet cranking the engine) of my 1965 Galaxie, the warning lights for oil, alt and cold light up. Turn the key to start up the engine and the oil and alt lights goes out immediately, the cold light goes out after a minute or so (90 here in New...
