    1956 Thunderbird Harmonic Balancer Replacement

I'm replacing the balancer and front crank seal on my '56 T Bird with power steering. Until I pulled the old balancer off this morning, I thought the Dayco PB1199N was the recommended replacement. I was very WRONG!! I can't make out the Ford part # on the old one even after quite a bit of...

    1956 Air Cooled Fordomatic

Perhaps a "stupid" question, but that's not stopped me before! I have an early '56 T Bird with the air cooled converter. When I replaced the left exhaust pipe off the manifold, I failed to leave enough space between it and the air intake "scoop" on the transmission case, and I get a...

    Bomb Cyclone

Know this thread isn't directly related to our Late V8 Fords, but it is related to some who support and post on this forum. From what I can see on the national weather and news, the Northwest has been hit with one on the most devastating storms in a century, or possibly ever. Hoping our...

Fuel Grade for 312 ci engine

Not intending this to stir up a controversy like a discussion about "the best oil", but I know the literature says use Premium grade fuel in the 312ci because the compression ratio is 9.0 to 1 for a 1956 Thunderbird. For reasons unknown to me, our gas over here in AZ is quite a bit more...

Replacing the Thermostat in my '56 312ci.

I'm slowing working my way...and learning....through the 1956 Thunderbird my wife and I bought back in October 2022. I'm fairly well acquainted with pre and post war flatheads, but this one is brand new to me. This car tends to run cool....173* at the radiator with an infrared thermometer and...

    1956 T Bird Fuel Pump 312 Y Block

Now that I've solved my ignition issues, I'm moving on to my next problem, an original double vacuum mechanical fuel pump. Seems like the rebuild kits don't exist and the the "new" Carter pumps made in China are junk. Despite Carter's warranty claims, the reviews are bad. I did see some pumps...

    Pertronix 1282 on '56 T Bird with 312 engine

This is my first post on this forum, but I've been over on the Flathead side for quite a while. I'm working on a '56 T Bird that I bought about six weeks ago. The points/condenser ignition quit on me and I decided to go with a Pertronix electric. I know the arguments for staying with the...

    Perhaps Another "Dumb" Question

I've blocked off the heat risers on my 59AB and love the "rapping" sound out the tail pipes. I have Red's Headers and Smithy mufflers. Does blocking the heat risers also cause a chugging type sound under load...almost like an exhaust leak. I've checked for leaks and can't find anything...

Pop-up Adds at Bottom of Screen

Today when I logged into the Barn, I'm getting pop up add at the bottom of my screen. This happens when using either Google or Firefox as my browser. Understand Ryan can't provide this for free forever, but are others here experiencing the same?

    Air Cleaner Mystery!!

This air cleaner came on the '39 Deluxe Fordor I bought in 1996. It looks like maybe it was intended for an industrial application. Seems like putting vacuum on the oil fill breather would reverse the normal flow though the engine? The letters on one side of the fitting at the top of the air...

    59 AB Pan Removal

I want to tackle a leaking rear main seal on the 59 AB in my '47. I know it's been covered here, but I can't find the thread using the search function. Can I get the pan down with the engine in the car and the transmission in place? Thanks in advance for your help.

    Replacing 6 volt heater motor

The original 4 wire heater motor on my '47 Super Deluxe has given up the fight! I've been unsuccessful in finding a replacement from our great sources here on the Barn and on E-bay. So, I have a 6 volt Unimotor from C&G that is reversible. As was noted here in another recent post, the original...

1947 Super Deluxe Front Axle Bumpers

I want to replace the front axle bumpers which I think are original. The bolt stud is 3/8 and the thread count is 24. Replacement bumpers have a 7/16 stud with a 20 thread count. The nut, I believe, is caged in the frame and really difficult to replace. Do I have any options?
