    Vacuum source?

My '56 312 has a '57 distributor and a Holley Performer 2 bbl carb on it. This conversion was done before I got the car. The distributor vacuum is connected to a ported source from the carb. Is this correct or should it be connected to manifold vacuum? Thanks.

    Strange Noise

My 56 Victoria with a 312 has an exhaust leak I cannot find. It is under the hood and only makes noise when the engine has a load on it. Idling in park you cannot hear it, but put it in gear and step on the gas and it sounds like an old truck! I have replaced the manifold gaskets and exhaust...

    History of my car

I am trying to trace the history of my '56 Fairlane. I have the VIN number but haven't been able to trace it back. The car was built in Dallas, Texas and is supposed to have spent most of it's life there. It went through the Branson Missouri auto auction on October 12th or 13th 2012 and was...

    1956 Vacuum Lines

Does anyone know where I can get the 2 metal lines that go to the vacuum booster on the fuel pump for a 1956 y-block for the wipers? If I have to make them, do you know what size lines they are and where the factory correct bends are? Thanks in advance!

    Roof rail seals

I need to replace the roof rail seals on my 56 Fairlane 4 door hardtop. I know that no one is reproducing them and am wondering if anyone has put an after market seal on theirs. If so, do you have the make and part # ? Thanks in advance!

Correct fuel sending unit found for 1956

After a lot of research, and much misinformation found, I finally found a fuel sending unit that works with my '56 Fairlane with a stock bi-metallic gauge. Dennis Carpenter has the correct one, Part # B6A-9275. It is listed for '56 only; the paperwork that came with it says 1936-1955...

    Desparate Help Needed!

Does anyone know where I can get a front band for a medium case Fordomatic transmission? Mine is bad in my '56 Fairlane and my rebuilder does not have a source for one. I know they are out of production but relined ones may still be around? Thanks! Rick

    '56 Sun Visor Mount Location

Can someone who has a four door Fairlane provide a picture of where their sun visors are mounted? My 4 door hardtop didn't have any visors when I bought it. The head liner has been changed so it is hard to tell where the mounting holes are. I had a friend who gave me a set out of a four door and...

    Head Gasket Replacement Question

I'm getting ready to replace the right side head gasket on my '56 Fairlane. It is supposed to be a 312 (I'll measure the bore after I get the head off). The car has a history from the previous owner of some overheating and from what I have read on this forum, it looks like the head gasket was...

    1956 Grill

This may be a stupid question: is the grill on a '56 Victoria chromed or is it polished aluminum or stainless? Mine has some fine scratches that I would like to remove but don't know how to go about it. Thanks!

    Oil filter canister bolt torque?

For those of you still using the original canister type oil filter, what do you torque the center bolt to? The shop manual calls for 25 ft-lbs and mine won't seal. I tightened it to 35 lbs and it held for a while then started leaking again. The bolt seems to loosen up after driving the car for...

    56 or later?

Starting to really look at the engine in my '56 Fairlane. I have not yet pulled the oil pan to look for the bearing cap stampings, but the engine is supposed to be a 312. What is odd is this: the top of the coil faces rearward; all the books I have show the coil top facing the passenger side on...

    Oil Filter Adapter Installation

I don't have my kit yet but I am preparing for the installation (spin on adapter). I assume that the 1-1/4 inch fitting that is currently in the block has to be taken out? I have a 12 point socket that fits fairly well and haven't been able to budge the fitting with a breaker bar. I don't have a...

    Oil Filter Adapter Question

Just ordered an adapter kit for a spin on oil filter. What filter are you using if you have this conversion? 1956 Fairlane, 312 motor. I would like to use a Motorcraft FL-1A if it will work. Thanks

    Rocker Oiling Update

Just finished installing a NOS rocker arm oiling kit (passenger side only) on my '56. I am pretty much convinced the cam bearing isn't aligned properly and am not going to tear the motor down for that right away. I have the line run so it is not real obvious but I'm sure some old Ford guy will...

    Another Rocker Oiling Question

My 56 is not getting oil to the passenger side rocker arm assembly. I have removed the assembly, found the rocker shafts clean and clear. I checked the passage thru the head, clear and clean. I put carb cleaner in the oiling hole and let set. The level did go down a small amount. Cleaned out the...

    Fordomatic Front Band

I pulled the transmission pan to check the front band adjustment on my 56 Fairlane. Intermediate gear slips, low and reverse are fine. It LOOKS like the front band friction material is worn out. The adjuster screw that is operated by the front servo was turned in about half way. I put the...

    New to the Forum

Just wanted to introduce myself and my car. My name is Rick and I recently purchased the car I have wanted since I was a kid, a 1956 Fairlane Victoria. It is the Fordor hardtop version which I haven't seen too many of. It is a straight rust free Texas car made in Dallas four days before I was...
