Repro light switch rod too big

I have a reproduction light switch rod that seems to be too large in diameter to fit down the tube to the light switch. It goes in about 1/2 inch then stops. Does anyone have any experience in making that fit?

    Speedometer pickup

I bought a car whose speedometer wasn’t working. I removed the speedometer pickup which appears to be in good shape. I fed both the old cable and a new one well into the housing. The gear spins but doesn’t engage the cable. The cables both are square on the ends, so I’m wondering if the...

    Rear main leak part 4

After dropping the oil pan I removed the rear main bearing cap and this is what I found. There’s a shredded seal behind the cap that can’t be helping. Also, in the second picture the bearing cap there’s a couple of sleeves I didn’t expect. Is this all normal?

    Oil pump removal

I’ve been going over some things on a 31 roadster I just got. I dropped the oil pan to check for sludge - not too bad, a little on the bottom. It’s been a few years since I removed the pan on an A, but I remember the oil pump coming out with the pan. This one’s bolted on the side of the engine...

    Difficulty with oil pan removal

I recently acquired a 1931 A that has a big oil leak from the drain behind the rear main. In dropping the oil pan, I was unable to lower it out as the forward lip is a little forward of the front crossmember. In searching the forum for a solution I came across this from ten years ago: (removal...

    Identifying a high compression head

I’ve seen high compression heads described as looking original. Is there an easy visual way to tell the various compression ratios and original heads apart on an installed engine?

    Stranded by the road

I was driving down the road, when my A began to sputter and quit. The ammeter showed a large fluctuating discharge, even with the key removed, and a clicking sound came from the engine area. When I put the stethoscope on it, the sound seemed to be coming from the fuse, which was rapidly becoming...

    starter drive spring and bolts

I went to start the car and got the starter motor to turn but not engage. Upon removing the starter found that one of the starter drive bolts and washers was missing. I fished it out with a magnet and am ready to re-install it, but don't know how much tension the spring should have. It's sort of...

    Oil pan tube

I recently replaced my timing gear and in the process cleaned the oil pan. In the bottom of the pan I found a copper tube, about 3 inches long that appears to have broken off the back of the oil sump. It's not part of the oil pump, but looks like it might have been a pickup of some kind. What...

    Bad Timing Gear?

Hi guys, I was driving the A and it started knocking a bit then quit and wouldn't restart. A quick inspection show the distributor rotor wasn't turning. I removed it and the lower distributor shaft, and the gear at the bottom isn't turning with the engine. Does this sound like it might be a bad...
