1940 ford rear fender bolt sealing

Searched through the barn and didn't see anything on what to use to seal the bolt/nut-clip area. "nut-clip...?" It appeared on my parts car that Ford used some sort of "tar" like stuff applied to the fasteners on the inside of the car... is that a correct assumption? Did they put the stuff...

My 1940 coupe, what's behind the seat?

...maybe better said as what SHOULD be behind the seat... My coupe seems like an odd duck when trying to find other coupes with the same behind the seat orientation... This basket-case has been a challenge, I couldn't have gotten this far without barn help. This is where I started: I've...

'40 firewall, what's that big hole for?

It seems that most '40 firewalls have a plug for the big hole in the center of the firewall, is that what I'm missing? Neither of the '40s I've had (such as they were) had anything there.. My '38 Plymouth (first pic) had the coil stuffed in a hole in a very similar location...

    Installing 39 coupe windows

It looks like you have to unbolt the regulators, hook the new glass onto them and install as a unit? OR... pivot the regulators on one of the six bolts (which one?), Suggestions?! ...the regulators on 39s are big and have a removable center pivot point. Bought the glass from Bob's Classic Glass...

    1940-41 Pickup front fenders

Pair of 40-41 Pick-up front fenders got these before I knew what the differences were between these and car fenders. They were actually sold to me by a guy who stated they were car fenders, lesson learned... again! the fenders have the usual cracks and dents and some lower rust issues but they...

Have I got '40 truck front fenders?

Ok I bought these fenders several years ago from the attic of a garage in Mass. Holding them up to my coupe they simply don't fit in the cowl areas. Now I know these fenders aren't the best... BUT! After searching the web it seems I have truck fenders, the rear flange is squared off and on the...

'40 coupe painting question: doors on or off?

Doors on or off? I can see benefits and drawbacks to either. I will be painting the deck-lid and fenders off the body. I keep changing my mind about whether to put the doors back on... I have taken them off to epoxy prime them and do the body work, they will be finished soon. I've painted...

Doers any one make a repair panel for the bottom of a '40 trunk lid

I was able to find one for the '38 Plymouth I had done several years ago (see picture)... sooo... I'm thinking that finding one for a '40 Ford coupe should be easy! ...wrong!! Sure... you can find complete $1500 lids, but no repair panels? The lower edge is a compound curve and difficult to...

    '40 coupe qtr measurement needed...

...putting qtr panel patch panels on my coupe. The panels appear to be too short, and if the panels are short it would change the location of the rear fenders, in turn affecting the running boards, in turn affecting the front sheet metal. Can anyone provide this measurement from an original...

    installing rear shackles

There seems to be two types of shackles available for a 40 ford, the original style and the rubber or poly types... Which is better? When removing the old shackles do you also remove the bushings? (bushings = what is left after the spring bolts are driven out...)

    1940 coupe body measurements

Reassembling my coupe body, I had to remove the roof to fix the drip rails (there were only a few spot welds holding it on), I never trusted the dimensions of the body since it was in such terrible shape, and using the roof to determine the width seems iffy at best since the roof flexes so much...

    1940 pedal frustration!

I've got two sets of pedals, each was sold to me as being absolutely positively for a '40. Well neither of them fit. They appear to be '46 - 48 pedals. The first set was bought at Hershey, he was POSITIVE they were for a 40; cuz "the tag says so", the second set was bought from ebay where the...

What is this rear hub from?

I bought a badly rusted basket case 40 a few years ago... and with it came axles (year unknown so far...) & '46 front hubs/brakes and only backing plates on the rear... these rear hubs have me stumped! there is no brake drum and the bolt pattern is 5 x 4 3/4 (or 4 1/2?), They seem to fit the...

A 8n tractor radius rod socket question

Putting a s10 4x4 t5 in my '40 using adapters, this allows me to use the factory rear axle and torque tube, and be able to run highway speeds. BUT #1! I have to remove the bottom plate that ties the x-frame together so the trans can be removed if necessary in the future, BUT #2, the wishbone...

    '40 frame painting question..

As everyone knows, many ford frames are double walled because of the way the x-members also become innerframes front and back. Is there a way to get a rust prventaive between the two layers of frame, meaning the side rails and where they connect to the x-member... or is it nothing to be...
