Asking our members in New Zealand

I have a friend living in Greece. He has just sent me pictures of a 1930 or 31 Tudor with trailer attached that he saw in the street in Greece. It is LHD, a green/ble colour and has a painted radiator surround and headlights. Do any of our Kiwi members know who it might be.

    1933/4 front wheel studs

Hello there guys, I am an imposter on this forum but I've been posting on the Model A one for years. As some of you might know, Henry didn't have the front/rear brake balance right - not enough on the front. I'm trying to get around that on my well used touring car by putting 1934 brakes on the...

    1934 wheel studs

Are these wheel studs the same as the one used in Model As? I have a ruined stud on one drum and I don't like the idea of driving on it like that. I can get Model A studs but not '34 ones if they ae different.

    Tyres!

I need help to make a decision. I think I would be better off buying a good tyre that will get me a long way down the road. Shipping would be the same for a cheap and nasty low mileage tyre as a good one. What brand of tyre do you guys think gives the best mileage? I only run black walls.

    Rear main bearing cap

I am not sure I am on the right forum here but I recall a while ago, someone posted about a guy he had found who had replaced the Babbit in the rear main bearing cap - only the cap. I have an engine that is in V good condition other than the Babbit is galled due to lack of oil. How it came to be...

    Harmonic Balancer

I tried finding the contact details for Murray Horne in New Zealand (the maker of these devices) by doing a search here but it seems the email address I found is no longer active. Can anybody please provide a current contact for him please? I'd like to buy another one from him. Thanks in advance.

    Ford Barn site running slow?

For the last few days, every time I click the mouse, I get the "circle of death" for a couple of minutes before anything happens. When I try, I get a "time out" error because of an error at this site. Has any body else had problems with this site?

    Route 66

I was talking with a fellow Model A owner at a car club (all makes, not only Model As) on Friday night and he said he had heard that a Model A club over there was planning a run along Route 66. My wife and I have done it in a modern car but would love to do it in a Model A or at least follow the...

    RHD steering box

There are a number of vendors supplying parts for Model As and I assume (hope) the same applies for V8s. I'd be chasing RHD steering box bits.

    Death of a Legend

After a long fight with lung problems, Judith Durham of The Seekers fame had died at the age of 79. IMO, one of the purist voices in popular music and a favourite of mine. RIP, Judy. A couple of her songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZf41UudAbI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrLTe1_9zso...

    Rope rear oil seal

I have a diamond B engine which came to me with a damaged oil slinger on the back of the crankshaft. When I had it rebuilt, they did what they could with it but it leaks terribly. I have been told that grinding off the slinger and using a rope seal from a 350 Chev engine (?) is an option. Before...

    Light Switch

I have just spent what must be the most frustrating few hours ever. I've been trying to put the $%^&* light switch together and I have not found anything with a search here nor in Les Andrews' red book. Any hints or directions to reference material would be much appreciated. I have the spider...

    F150

I heard on the news a couple of days ago that Ford is going to reintroduce the F150 into the Australian market but only after we design all of what's needed to convert it to RHD. The first round of F150s were terrible vehicles with all sorts of problems. They were after all, imported from a...

Lights turn off when I turn the steering wheel

I haven't encountered this before but I have always known it happens. Why? Where do I look first.

    Corn head grease

For many years, I have used John Deere cornhead grease in the steering box of my cars. Today, I went to buy more and was told it is no longer available. Is that true or is it just a BS line from a salesman who can't be bothered. Maybe it's just another product caught up in the supply problems...

    Tyres

The last container of tyres brought in by our local seller were all sold before they arrived - probably due to the supply issues we are experiencing across the board. I need tyres on my '29 tourer and the Ute (21"). If I can buy from a US supplier, I can get them here but I don't know the US...

    Valve clearance

My cam grinder says that the new, stainless valves offered by the vendors require a much wider clearance - as much as 0.025" on the exhaust. It is obvious that these valves are made from different steel from what Ford used and therefore, the clearances should be different yet nothing is said by...

    Private message

It's a little after 8.30 am Tuesday here now but last night, I opened FB and there was a PM waiting for me. I had this Your Notifications : 1 at the top of the screen. When I opened it, all it contained was a member's profile - no message. I won't mention which member but I sent him a message...

    Rear spring shackles

I've scoured the books I have but nowhere can I see what is the diameter of the rear spring shackle pins. Can anybody please provide a size? As you all know, we tow a camper behind our A and the weight of the drawbar on the tow bar is enough to lower the back of the car too much. I have a spring...
