1951 Fordomatic reluctant to go into Drive or Reverse

My 1951 convertible with Fordomatic sometimes does not want to go into drive or reverse when I move the shifter. I've checked the fluid level and it is full. What could cause the transmission to fail to go into drive or reverse?

    Electric Fuel Pump Circuit

I have an electric fuel pump that maintains an electrical pathway when the car has oil pressure (if your oil pressure sender grounds when the pressure is zero), and is overridden by a momentary switch for priming the carburetor. The MOM-OFF-ON switch can be hidden as a theft-deterrent feature...

1951 Steering lower sector shaft seal

It looks like the lower sector shaft has a seal that is pressed in. My question is how do I remove and replace it. Thanks Also, on the ford barn is there a way to conduct a two or three word search, such as for sector shaft seal. If I put those three words in, the site seems to search for...

    Shoebox oil filter canister

I changed the oil and filter in my 1951 Ford yesterday. The lid to the oil filter canister was "stuck" on so I had to tap it gently to remove it. When I replaced the gasket that came with the filter cartridge, the lid did not seem to go down very far on the canister, which promps my question...

WANTED 1951 Mercury fender skirts for shoebox

My 1951 Ford convertible has factory three-rib skirts, but I would like to replace them with 1951 Mercury skirts cut down to fit under the shoebox side chrome. I prefer metal skirts, but will accept fiberglass skirts if they have the attachment mechanism that will work on a shoebox.

    1949-51 red convertible boot

We bought a tan boot for our red 1951 Ford convertible, so we don't need the red boot that came with the car. It is heavy vinyl with a soft cloth backing. It is in excellent condition with all the snaps; no stains, tears, or abrasions; and no defects. We will accept a reasonable offer.

Headers on 1951 Ford convertible with Fordomatic

Anyone have experience with Red's headers on a 1951 Ford convertible with Fordomatic transmission? I haven't tried to install the headers yet, but it looks like the headers might interfere with the transmission shift linkage and neutral safety switch. Any thoughts on this issue? Thanks.

    Rough idle on 1951 8BA

When I had a freshly rebuilt Holley 94 on my 1951 Ford, the idle was quite smooth. I made one 80 mile trip and the idle was very rough. I've tried adjusting the idle needles and the curb idle, but it still runs rough. I used the old trick of clamping my hand over the carburetor throat to suck...

    Timing a 1951 Ford Flathead

I have two questions; the first is: Is the timing mark (Bump) on the crank pulley at TDC or at 2 degrees or 4 degrees before TDC? (I've seen all three answers online.) The second is: does the 1951 distributor have mechanical advance? Thanks

Adjusting the steering wheel play in a 1951 Ford

The steering box is different on the 1951 Ford. The bolt that is locked down on the top of the steering box is different from other Ford steering boxes. Before the 1951, the bolt that needed to be unlocked by the 5/8" nut raised or lowered a tapered gear that changed the amount of play in the...
