    '46 Coupe Trans Rebuild

Your thrust washer and shim are for a late post war cluster. The "butterfly" washer fits in a matching rise at the back of the postwar 51- cluster. If you have a 68- type cluster , it should use a "4 prong" thrust washer. The 68- cluster was narrower than the later/stronger 51- clusters...

    1936 Brake Drums

Ford never quoted a figure in their manuals and it was suspiciously absent. In several early Ford manuals (like the 1941-1948 Ford Service manuals), the car specs were blank while some trucks had limits. In the 1949 - 1951 passenger car shop manual, with the arrival of Bendix brakes, Ford...

    Why a Resistor?

The resistor in an early Ford does not have a fixed resistance. When cold (on start up) when current has not yet heated it up, the resistance is low, allowing more voltage to the coil as the starter's heavy current lowers the battery voltage at its terminals. As the current continues to flow...

39 truck. Rain getting on the motor

These cars were meant to drive in the rain, whether head on or sideways. The only change Henry made was to add boots to the spark wire covers to prevent water dripping into the distributor caps. I drove my 37 in a torrential rain with no breakdown although it seemed to be missing a little in...

    ‘37 model 78 horn problem

Re: ‘37 model 78 horn problem You don't mention grounding which I think is the problem but your test results are puzzling. The 37 Ford horns have two leads; one is connected to the battery (solenoid terminal) and the other to the horn button for grounding when the horn button pushed. The...
