need advice on removing crankshaft pulley on 81A

Thanks guys. All came off nice and easy and the button was as described too. As for fitting a helmet distributor - yep - that would be a nice original look, but I wanted to get the old girl up and running asap and someone had a 2-bolt crab dizzy ready to fit. Only issue that I can see now is...

need advice on removing crankshaft pulley on 81A

Thanks Mart. That's a worry. Not sure what an extender button looks like. I have the Lucas out already. Will the button be sitting on the end of the camshaft or on the back of the dizzy? I presume it's obvious. Is it something that was fitted to all flatheads with two bolt distributors...

need advice on removing crankshaft pulley on 81A

Hi. Have a '36 RHD coupe-ute (Canadian build) with a later 24 stud engine. For some reason it has a timing cover with a 3-bolt Lucas distributor. To fit the original type 2-bolt, I need to replace the timing cover, which I've found means I need to remove the crank pulley. It has the hand...

problems with '39-'42 brakes on my '36 Ford roadster

Sorry about the late reply. I'm still fighting with the brakes on this old girl. I had the front shoes relined and matched to the drums. I've put new wheel cylinders on the front as well, as one was leaking. I haven't inspected the rear drums as I'll need to apply heat to get them off, but...

problems with '39-'42 brakes on my '36 Ford roadster

I think I found a possible solution. Residual pressure valves. From an earlier post: Adding a dual master cylinder with adapter to my 40 Ford with stock drum brakes. Need to add 10lb. residual valve in the line....." I'll give that a go.

problems with '39-'42 brakes on my '36 Ford roadster

Hi folks, I have a factory '36 Ford roadster (RHD) which has had the brakes upgraded to the '39 to '42 variety some 30y ago. It also has a more modern PBR tandem master cylinder. I have replaced the flexible lines and front brake shoes. Wheel cylinders seem to work and aren't leaking. I have...

brake issues on 1936 with '39-42 setup

For those interested, my front shoes were glazed (no sign of wear). The brake specialist told me he reckoned they were at least 20 years old, so I'm having them redone and the brakes skimmed. Hopefully that should fix the problem.

brake issues on 1936 with '39-42 setup

Hi flatheadmurre. Thanks for your advice. The bore is 1" diameter, not sure what it's meant to be. The shoes do look glazed, so I'll deal with that first. Thanks, Lloyd

brake issues on 1936 with '39-42 setup

Sounds like I better check out the linings and replace them. I'm not sure how they age or deteriorate with time, although I understand that they can become glazed. Hopefully there's someone local here who can reline them. Thanks, Lloyd

brake issues on 1936 with '39-42 setup

Just got home. Thanks for all the quick and useful replies. It's strange that my front brakes don't have lower adjusters. I can see that they're available online. Sounds like I ought to check out my master cylinder too. I'd happily replace it with an original single pot master if that fixes...

brake issues on 1936 with '39-42 setup

I've got a '36 Ford roadster (factory RHD) that has a '39-42 juice brakes. This is the first car I've had with this setup. I've changed the front hoses, replaced the master cylinder (which is a later tandem PBR unit). Although the brake pedal is hard, the stopping power is lousy. The shoes...

advice on turn signals for a '36 roadster

I've got one like that, that I bought for another car and didn't use, so it's a good backup option. Cheers, Lloyd

advice on turn signals for a '36 roadster

Thanks for the handy images. I was going to wire it up myself rather than buy a kit as you're only paying for wiring, a flasher and a toggle switch. Cheers, Lloyd

advice on turn signals for a '36 roadster

That's a bit of lateral thinking. Depending on how well I can make the wiring inconspicuous, I might try that. Cheers, Lloyd

Yep. That's them. Just don't like the idea of those contraptions hanging off my steering column. Cheers, Lloyd

advice on turn signals for a '36 roadster

Hi Tom. I like the look of those too. I might see if I can get the original light switch on the steering wheel working too. Much better to have it oriignal. Cheers, Lloyd

advice on turn signals for a '36 roadster

Wow! Got out of bed this morning and there's 19 replies. Thank you so much for your inputs and advice. I will take the advice to have respectable looking, separate blinkers at the back of the car, for safety more than anything. I will likely go for a toggle switch or anything that looks the...

advice on turn signals for a '36 roadster

Hi. I bought a RHD '36 Ford roadster here in Australia several months ago. It's in original condition, except that it's had a 12V conversion. I'd like to install turn signals in a way that doesn't affect the appearance of the car inside or out. I'll probably fit orange globes where the park...
