    '31 roadster windshield anatomy

I've read here about others' difficulty with tensioning the windshield wingnuts and wonder if i'm missing any parts on mine. I have noticed that my wingnuts seemed fully tight and still allowed the frame and glass to pivot in when at speed. I pushed the wooden crossmember off of the stanchions...

    still fighting extreme rich condition

Been fighting this all summer, even broke down on the way to Greenfield Village and had to be towed... Yesterday I swapped modern points setup back to original design, thinking that I had intermittent shorting. My carb was sent back to Renner's to make sure everything was in order after his...

    need help with ignition points..

Looks like this is rigged up wrong, I bought original points hardware recently to change out my modern points. I have an aftermarket ignition/key switch and the wire leading to the tab on the lower plate comes from the switch directly to the plate. Was this a shortcut vs. the spring loaded...

    OT: old car trivia

Hours after Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the Secret Service found themselves in a bind. President Franklin D. Roosevelt was to give his infamy speech to Congress the next day, and although the trip from the White House to Capitol Hill was short, agents weren’t sure how to transport him...

....when I operate the headlight lever on my '31 the bail that holds the light switch to the steering column falls off and then the switch drops off. Help identifying cylinder head...

Can anyone tell me what compression ratio this head might be? I looked in some of the parts catalogs and the pictures aren't good enough to help me identify it. There are no numbers anywhere on it.

    New engine break-in suggestions

Any friendly advice on breaking in my newly rebuilt engine from AER? I already have Rich's checklist of adding a few squirts of oil to each cylinder 24 hours before firing it up, and maintain high idle of 1000 to 1200 RPM to ensure adequate cylinder lubrication (I'm starting with Quaker State...

    timing advanceing at higher RPM

Any thoughts on this? Not that I see it as a problem, just surprised that with a stock distributor and modern points plates that it would advance like this. I can't get my mind around how this happens other than at higher RPMs a stronger spark is jumping to the distributor cap contacts slightly...

Suggestion for those fighting "no spark" gremlins

I've had an intermittent problem with a no-spark issue and the engine cutting out while driving. It seems to happen occasionally when I was adjusting the spark advance, but not always (making it harder to diagnose). IT happened again today, and I suspected the wire leading the points below the...
