Recap of the "Let's get personal" thread

This is through post 118 of that thread which asks members to post their age. 110 members out of the 118 posts posted their age <20 1 20-29 3 30-39 4 40-49 3 50-59 11 60-69 29 70-79 40 80-89 18 >89 1 Here are a few "take aways" for me... It certainly is an "old guys" hobby...

    Flywheel balancing

Is a Model A flywheel balanced "neutral'? In other words, can it be balanced by itself without the rest of the rotating assembly (except the pressure plate, of course)?

    Dry Run up Mt. Baker

Our local club is holding a tour up Mt. Baker Highway (NW Washington State) to the end of the road at Artists Point on August 9th. The climb is from sea level to about 5,000' in 45 miles or so. The last stretch of the road was finally cleared of snow on June 29th, so a few of us decided to...

    Leak that healed itself...

About 500 miles ago, I replaced the well worn original engine in my 30 Tudor with a good used engine. The original engine didn't leak a drop. The "new" engine was .080 over and the pistons seemed tight in the bores. I replaced 2 valves and lapped them all in and set clearances. The babbitt...

    Rim Liners?

What are your recommendations on the use of rim liners? These are the 1 1/2" wide rubber strips that go around the inside of the rim supposedly to protect the tube. I know all the suppliers sell them, and I use them on my British sports cars to protect the tube from the ends of the spokes that...

    Engine + Trans Install

Is it possible...if so are there any tricks...to installing the engine and transmission as a unit?

    Found in flywheel housing

Art and I pulled the original engine and trans in my 30 Tudor yesterday. I want to at least temporally replace the tired original engine with a "refreshed" spare I have, reseal the leaky trans, and replace the chattering clutch. It does appear that the trans, bell, flywheel and flywheel...

    Jack stowage

Where is the jack and other tools kept on a Tudor?

    Babbit process question

I picked up what was described as "a good used motor" but with no history. I've taken it apart down to the long block to inspect it and fix any thing that needs fixing prior to putting it into service. The babbitt was somewhat of a mystery to me. Under each rod and main bolt was a single .035...

Need Tudor rear seat spring measurement

I think I've found a set of rear seat springs for my 30 Tudor, but we're we're not absolutely sure they came from a Tudor. Could someone please measure their Tudor rear seat springs (bottom cushion and back rest) and let me know? Thanks!

    Fuse

I'll admit that electricity is basically magic to me and this is going to sound stupid to those that have a good grasp of it. The common place to fuse a Model A is on the wire between the starter and the terminal box. It seems to me that this would work fine if a short developed anyplace in...

    Weird (to me) intake

What's with the extra "bump" on this intake?

    E-Brake return springs (again)

Like most, I'm struggling to install the e-brake return springs on the e-brake actuator arm. I've searched the heck out of the forum and read everything I can find on the subject (not that I FOUND everything)...including MAG's unique solution (post #5 here...

    Shift tower numbers

My shift tower has these numbers on the cast piece that bolts to the trans... A-7222-C Any significance?

    Tudor Rear Seat

My recently purchased 1930 Tudor came without the rear seat. The catalogs show "one size fits all", but my guess is that there is more to the story than that. What should I be looking for? I'd like an original seat for the year if possible. And...if anyone has one, I'd be interested. Thanks!

    Setting rear main

What are you guys using to remove and install the 3/4" nuts that secure the rear main? tbirdtbird uses this... "I took a 3/4" 1/2" drive socket and welded a 3/4" nut onto it and then I use a box wrench usually with a cheater pipe to set them" Any other ideas? Thanks!

    "Acceptable" bearing clearances

I pulled the pan and started checking bearing clearances today. The rods don't have any shims left, but the bearing material (at least on the cap) still looks good. I Plastigauged #1 and there is about .0025 clearance. The Mains still have some shims left. I plastigauged the middle one and...

    Newbie...new Model A owner

The first car I ever "restored" (I use that term loosely) was a 1930 A Coupe when I was in High School in 1965. I've probably restored or hot rodded over 30 cars since...two of which went to the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona...but never another Model A. I finally decided to relive my...
