I have a 400jr and it is a pita to adjust. I have to measure the clearance then raise the lifter in the bore and adjust by trial and error. So drill the holes if it is not too late.

Using 12volts on 6 volt starter

The 12 volts works great on a 6 volt starter but do not crank very long without cooling time. My guess is no longer than 5 seconds. The tighter the engine the more current the starter will draw and the more likely something will burn in the starter.

I did not take out the center bearing when I shortened the torque tube and always thought I made a mistake until now. My lazy mistake may be my oil flow dam.

People who have posted about problems were at altitude after pulling long grades. Even water boils at a lower temperature at high altitude. Ask any cook who has tried to cook in the mountains.

    12V Battery choices

I went to my local Costco with my tape measure and they had a large rack of many batteries for me to choose from. Also visited local auto parts stores but Costco was cheaper. It was not perfect but fit my requirements at the lowest cost. I assume sams club has the same items.
