Gap between cowl and base wood

Hi all, I have the body off frame for my 68b for painting. The cowl is mounted on the two 'base'(?) wood pieces and there is a gap of about 5/16" at the rear base (ie, below the door hinges). This is covered by the door sill, but I'm wondering if it would be a good time to fill or seal the...

    How to reach Mitchell Manufacturing?

I have tried to reach Mitchell Manufacturing several times by phone over the past six weeks and filled their 'Contact' page on the website twice. Haven't received any response at all. Any suggestions? Are they taking some time off? I just want to get on the overdrive waiting list! Thanks...

    Old coating in gas tank?

Thanks all! Tank is coming out! Local folks have preferred not to open original seams, but rather cut 3 holes in the back (see pic), bead blast and solder back together. Then use KBS Coatings Tank Sealer (following instructions!) Any suggestions? Alternatives?

    Old coating in gas tank?

I have a '31 68B. The tank appears to have been sealed at some time in the past, but rust is starting to come through. No issues with clogs -- yet! Car is off frame for painting and now is the time to do something with the tank - but what to do? Do any of the cleaning or sealing methods...

Cowl to side-rails connection for 68B? Move body off frame?

Hi all, I have decided to remove my 68B body from the frame. My car is an old restoration, so I'm not sure what's original in the attachment of the cowl structure to the rest of the body. Currently, the only attachment between the cowl and the wooden side rails appears to be a bolt on each...

Rumble Seat Lid Installation - 30 Coupe

I know this is an old thread, but I hope my question is relevant! Which part of the hinge/bolt/washers is supposed to move? Also, for my 68B the proper placement seems to be in the upper/forward portion of the bracket hole. I can't seem to get the nut tight enough to prevent the bolt from...

    Options for painting gas tank?

Thanks for all the replies! I'm now leaning toward removing the tank to paint and moving the body completely off the car. Appreciate all the input!

    Options for painting gas tank?

Hi all, Finally getting ready to paint my 68B. My understanding is that all Model As were painted with gas tank already installed. So when they painted the body, the welting was painted on the outside and the area between the tank and firewall was left in primer(?) Can anyone confirm? I...

    Rumble seat lid fit?

I have a 68B cabriolet. The previous owner replaced the quarter panels. The rumble lid is in such good shape, it may be a repro - not sure. The top edge of the lid fits well side to side. The base has about 3/8" gap on each side. The top edge is 36 1/2" wide. The bottom edge of the lid is...

Holes in corner of rumble seat?

Is it true that a cabriolet would have always come with a rumble seat? If so, would such a hinge mount still be there?

Holes in corner of rumble seat?

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone can explain the holes in the side of the rumble seat lid near the top corner?

    3-point seat belts in tudor

Thanks, Pete. I will check. Just to be clear my intent is not a cage or roll protection, rather a strong frame for properly securing the seat belts. I might add that this same frame could just as easily support a 4 point harness, but I thought that would be unnecessarily inconvenient for the...

    3-point seat belts in tudor

At the risk of re-opening a 'can of worms', I would like to chime in because my significant other feels strongly that she wants seat belts in our '31 cabriolet and so I am doing my best to accommodate - and at the same time thread the needle between wishful thinking and doing some good. Here...
