Two things I don't get! (Carbs and Ign)

Answers; Al, No I blew them out with 100lbs of compressed air from both ends. They were all clear. Mitch, I don't have an inline spark tester. I have never seen one. I am thinking of pulling the carb apart again and paying particular attention to the GAV valve/jet Ray,I thought that might be...

    New member, my introduction

Welcome to the "Barn"! That's a nice Tudor. There are many tips and tricks etc. to be learned here. In some ways, Mod As are like no other cars. There's no better place to learn about them. Terry

Two things I don't get! (Carbs and Ign)

Well, I put the "new" engine into the coupe and it runs worse than the old one! How so? you might ask. The mod B carb. and (I suspect) the ignition. While the engine feels strong when it surges it will often break up after a few seconds. It feels like it's running out of gas and frequently barks...

    front spring bushings

I make my own bushing drivers. If you have access to a lathe, it's a simple tool to make. It's the kind of a first job we did early in basic Machine Shop. No heat, No chill. no drill or reamer . Just push em' out and the new ones in! Terry

    embarassing question

I said my piece! I think Brent was the wrong guy to attack. I think upon reflection that the writer will realize this. I don't wish that this should go any farther. Let's forget about it and go on fixing our cars. Terry

    embarassing question

Hey! That's not fair! Brent has a business but gives his time and experience where asked for it. Furthermore, On a couple of occasions, I have spoken to him on the phone and he's always been helpful. He has taken time away from his business to help me and never once asked for anything. I agree...

    Cracked block repair failure

When I was working as a Maintenance Machinist/welder. The boss got a job in, that I detested. It was a 6 or 8" C.I. valve body from the local sewer plant (I can't recall which) It was cracked like it had frozen (it was July) It was covered with some dried out scuz all over it (Let your...

    Cupholder Dash Mount

I used a piece of sheet 18ga. I attached a piece of ash to the bottom. I had cut out a large hole for the cup. I made the sheet metal long enough to reach two of the screws that hold the dash rail! I then slid the cup holder under the dash rail, replaced the screws, and "Viola", My mod. A has...

    Cracked block repair failure

I have a friend who welded a Catepillar head by heating it to 1400 deg. F in an oven for a while. Then he welded it with 6010 wire. It Held! 6010 wire has a very violent arc and will clean a lot of carbon out of the weld. Any welding of a head/manifold has to contend with massive carbon build up...

    Headlight Bar

You might want to take a trip to Bill Haberer's Mod A Acres in Watsonville, Pa. I don't know where Lexington, Ohio is, but Bill is right off Rt 80 about halfway across the state. Bill aquired a large supply of Mod. A stuff from Renningers about two years ago. He's sort of a "Bert's" Of the east...

    Looking for help

Larry's advice is good! Anything to save pulling the engine! However, If you must, you must! Is the car in a garage now? If so , does the garage have an open ceiling? If so, can you put a short 4 X4 across 2 or more joists If they're only 2x4s Attach a brace (Purlin) to the roof rafters from...

    Looking for help

Tnewton, I'm pulling my engine now so I'm in the middle of this operation and intensely familiar with it. First, Take the hood and floor boards off/out. Then the light bar and lights pull it forward, then the grill shell, pull them both forward out of your way. I forgot to tell you to drain...
