    6 volt alternator question

A few years ago I installed the Powergen 6v into my 1955 Fairlane which is pretty much in stock condition. To keep the powered items working that were connected through the voltage regulator, I just disconnected the wires from the Voltage regulator that went to the old generator. I tied the...

    6 volt alternator question

Hi Bob, I've installed a 6v Alternator, positive ground into my 1955 Fairlane, 292 V8. The specific brand was a Powermaster 82106, also had to fit a Powermaster pulley on it. It works great, feeds a constant 7.2V when running. There were a couple small bugs to work out later, but overall I'm...

    '55 272 w/ Overdrive

I have a '55 with OD and confirm you understand it right. If my OD system is not functioning I prefer to pull the handle out as it helps with breaking in the hilly countryside. When you get around to researching the cut wires, there's probably a reason they were cut, so you'll have to trouble...

56 Ford Temp and Gas Gauge 6 or 12 Volt?

This old post may help understand your readings, https://fordbarn.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1716181&postcount=14 But it may be specific to Casco's gauges. Also sharing some experience with this, and verifying what the Y-blocks forever post says as well as the info from dmsfrr - mainly that the...

    Exterior black rubber trim question

I have an H3 with lots of hard black plastic that's gone grey. I've tried several basic trim restorers (Maguires, 3M, etc.) they work but then fade out in a few months. The best results I've had is with a ceramic based trim restorer, like Cerakote or Lithium trim cubes, these kept it black for...

brake light issue with my 55 Fairlane.

Hi Ted, I had this happen about 5 years back, brake lights just stopped working (but blinkers and parking lights were good) ... the test mentioned by Paul2748 is the clearest way to pin point the issue, then check if its not the wires at the connection as Abe mentioned. I bought the...

Holley 4000 warped cover - looking for experience

Thanks Sal, as always I appreciate the good solid advice from you. What kind of metal is the fuel bowl and cover made of? Is it aluminum like the throttle body?

Holley 4000 warped cover - looking for experience

Hi fellow Ford fans, I'm looking for someone who has actual experience with this, specifically trying to straighten a warped main body cover (fuel bowl cover) on a Holley 4000 teapot. Yesterday I did a rebuild on a friends Holley 4000, and when putting it back together noticed the top gasket...

    Distributor ID.

I found some old notes that say the FEU in the part number isn't a reference to the engine type, rather the "FE" indicates the distributor has ball bearing breaker plates, the "U" = '58, and per the parts catalog the "M" as the others posted indicates it fits a 292.

    '54 Ranch Wagon Window Channel

I can't say if it's front or rear, but I'd guess rear as on my 55 I recall the front one being a big longer and riveted to the inside of the door. For replacement, several years ago I picked up a kit, channels and all from this place, they had a pretty extensive selection of the window...

    starter drive

You're right Dave, I pulled the starter, came out easily, and I found that in the starter drive mechanism there is a thin washer or disc spring that holds tension on the Folo-Thru device. Unfortunately this washer split in half.

    starter drive

Hi All, Somewhat related to these post, I have a question on how to troubleshoot a bendix that isn't engaging. I have a 55 Fairlane, 292, manual transmission, 6v system. I've never had starter issues with this car, and the starter is one of the few things I haven't touched. Yesterday the car...

    6-V electric fuel pump?

Hi Dave, coincidentally this was one of my projects last weekend on my '55 Sunliner. I installed a 6v Brock Electric Fuel Pump (part no. U886-9092) which I picked up on Amazon. It looks exactly like the Airtex pics that Merc Cruzer posted. When I searched for 6V pumps, there are several...

    1954 Mercury electrical question

For what it's worth, another option to look at ... last year on my '55 I swapped out the 6v generator for a 6v Powermaster PowerGEN 82106 Alternator that looks like a generator. So far have driven it about 1,000 miles and am pleased with it, and it solved all of the issues I had with the low...
