    Hard steering

Update--The incorrect assembly I anticipated wasn't there, but a couple elements were out of place.-I removed the EZ steer nylon plugs and replaced them with the original steel components. Installed the washer in the drag link/pitman arm joint, greased everything, and the test drive revealed no...

    Hard steering

Holy mackerel !! Bob's sketches suggest the source of my problem. All four of my joints are assembled with the end plug screwed against the spring, none like his first photo with spring inside. I'll keep you posted.

    Hard steering

My 1930 huckster steers very hard, but I have still put on 1000 miles this year. I just drove a friend's cabriolet with good steering, and what a difference ! It has been suggested that the tie rod/ drag link ends may be too tight, and having installed the EZ steer nylon parts I think it is...

    VIN location on frame?

NK--see my post #6. I stamped a strip of 18 ga metal and pop-riveted it to the cross member behind the battery for the same reason you suggest --legible w/o removing body

    VIN location on frame?

Here's mine--the original, barely legible, duplicate on the frame behind the X, and readily visible on the firewall. The officer who verified the number said he would record only what he could see.

    Distributor and oil pump

I probably read that several years ago, and subconsciously imported the distributor into the issue. Thanks to all for the guidance.

    Distributor and oil pump

I have read-probably on this forum--that it is possible to remove the distributor and cause the oil pump to drop into the oil pan. I plan to rebuild my dist, but do not wish to prompt an oil pump recovery project. There is no mention of this issue in the red book. What precautions should I take?

    Headlight switch position

Cut a slot in the correct location for the reflector. Tried to switch red and green wires in the connector, but the brass plugs and plastic receptacles in the socket plug are sized to prevent this. Removed the main block from the steering box and switched the red and green, and things are where...

    Headlight switch position

It never ends. The red and green wires are in the correct slots, the black stripe is at the top of the bulb. The right reflector was 180* off. It has only one slot, and it is located correctly to accept the reflector. The photo is of the left reflector. Note it has two slots, but they are 90*off...

    Headlight switch position

I have never driven my car at night, but just installed a pair of focused beam bulbs just to be prepared. When adjusting the aim it became apparent that my hi- and low beam switch positions are reversed. 4 o'clock is low and 5 o'clock is high. I have a new Bratton's wiring harness and turn...

    V-8 clutch adjustments

I had a similar issue when I converted to a T5 using a 9" Chevy disc. I used an early V8 pp, but the chatter upon take-off was terrible. I disassembled everything, measured run-out and wobble, resurfaced the flywheel, and still had the problem. I purchased a diaphragm clutch for an 85 Mustang...

    Cell phone charging

I believe the mount is adequately isolated. It is all plastic except for the socket itself. Will try a larger fuse. Re: change to 12V, if this were a daily driver, I might do it, but for a hobby car I would rather keep the 6V.

    Cell phone charging

I followed Paul Shinn's video about installing a cell phone charger using a unit from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D4YSHSH3?tag=atomicindus08-20. It is described as a 12V cigarette lighter and power outlet, and says it comes with a 10 amp fuse, but this is the one that came with it. As...

Bell housing extras and imprint on pressure plate

New update-April 2026. Removed rear and trans for the the fourth time, and installed a diaphragm clutch from 1985 Mustang including new surface on the new Burtz flywheel. Clutch is still not as smooth as Henry's original, but so much better than three-finger pressure plate that I need not take...

    No Foot Starter Coversion

I didn't like the idea of having to multi-articulate my right ankle, so I installed a solenoid. This isn't so complex that it needs an expensive kit
