Re: My 1939 pickup named “Uncle Raeman”
My green '39 met your Uncle Raeman in Virginia several years ago. Never knew your military status as I thought your special interest was railroad. Thanks for your service, mine was Navy. My vineyard green '39 pickup is still active and I hope your Ford...
My '39 PU has a shield which is bolted to the front cross member in two places and to the left and right lower frame with two bolts each. The shield is below the one horn and is about 12" deep. The shield must be removed to service the horn. My truck also has overload springs: it was a Kansas...
My '39 pick up has the tank mounted between the frame rails at the back of the truck and under the bed. A cut out for the sender is in the bed held down with three metal screws. The fill pipe is in the left rear fender. I believe the larger Ford trucks had under seat tanks with the fill pipe on...
Good looking truck and one which will be the only one in your neighborhood. Keep it stock and you will be pleased at how easily it can be restored. I have one and will gladly share info if you desire. Good luck....
I am using studs to align the trans with the bell housing, and have removed the bearing retainer. Will try again later today. Thanks for the experienced comments. Nice to have another opinion.
Used 3" guide studs on the bottom of the trans housing, then used 3" bolts on the top of trans...
Having trouble installing '47 Mercury trans from the passenger compartment. Have not installed rear trans mount but rear bearing retainer with ears to mount above rear trans mount still will not slip into area where u-joint and clam shell halves eventually will be installed. Trans is hitting on...
There is only one hood support on my '39 PU; left side, mounted to a lip low on the firewall. The support is a two part brace which must be lifted slightly to release the hood so it can be closed. Totally mechanical and I do not believe there is a spring on the support
Clem: With all the snow we had today, I hope you found your way home. I'm sure the '39 won't go in the snow, so stay close to the fire for a few days and recover. We all wish you well! Ron Hutchins
The cab fuel inlet was used in the bigger Ford trucks where the fuel tank was below the cab. The left rear fender had the fill inlet for the fuel tank which was behind the diff and between the frame rails on the'39 pickup.
Clem...Enjoyed the Pumpkin Run report. The fun part was your nostalgic memories and your fondness for the past exploits in the area many years ago. No remarks about the '39 or the ladies who follow. Hope to see you at the Eastern Ford meet in Saratoga next year; we can compare those two pick ups...
Several of us from the Garden State Early Ford V8 Club will arrive 23 June and stay at the host hotel. I believe there will be eleven Fords, and at least eight will be driven. We hope to meet Ford Barners and put faces to the folks we've been reading about for years! See you there. Ron Hutchins
